He was walking in a park. It was good to have nothing to do in the sparkling sunshine, just watching the people passing by, the children playing... OK, it was Jarod, naturally, he was thinking of what to do next.

Once he heard a shot. And then an other. He felt something strange. His inner voice said not to go there but his legs started moving towards the noise. He heard screams. He saw people shouting and running. He was the only person who tried to approach the source of the chaos.

Suddenly he spotted a man brandishing a gun. In the minute Jarod spotted the man, the man spotted him too. There was another shot and Jarod felt pain near his stomach. It wasn't really strange. He had already felt it before. He fell on the ground. His eyes were still open, he didn't lost consciusness. He found it hard not to pass out but he wanted to stay awake.

He could dimly see the man with the gun. Jarod thought the man must have been mad to do such things. He could never understand how an intelligent creature could kill - without a good reason. In fact he couldn't really think of any good reasons.

There was nobody near the mad man. He seemed to hesitate what to do next. Then he he pointed his gun to his temple. He fell on his knees. He couldn't do it. He wanted it but it was very hard. He wasn't brave enough. He stood up again.

*******

Then they sensed moving from the bush. There were a few men approaching. Jarod could hardly see them but recognized their leader. She was Miss Parker. 'Who else could it be?' He couldn't believe his eyes. He wished he wasn't right. He closed his eyes and opened them again. She was still there and came closer. He wanted to tell her to go away but he couldn't. Two shots broke the chilling silence.

In the next minute the man fell on the ground dead. Jarod's heart was beating faster and faster. Miss Parker still stood there as if a small bullet couldn't harm her. She dropped her gun and put her hands on her chest. She looked first on Jarod then on herself. She was surprised but no pain could be seen on her face. It grew white. Then she collapsed.

She was dead, no questions. He just couldn't believe it.

'How could they find him? Why now? Why did she arrive first?' questions like these were swirling in his mind. 'He should have prevented it. But how?'

If he hadn't been shot, she would have caught him. He wouldn't care about it now. He wished it had happened.

He didn't realize that he had closed his eyes. He wanted to ignore his mind. He wanted to die as if it could have got her back.

In the park the 3 ambulance cars have already arrived. The dead were already in sacks. Her father wanted her to be brought back to the Centre. They were preparing her for the 'journey'.

Around Jarod's body were most of the people in the park. They were trying to revive him. It had no use. He never opened his eyes again.

*******

After 20 minutes the exhausted doctors still tried to bring him back to life. They were sure they could rescue him. He had not such a serious wound to die.

The people of the Centre were around Jaord's body too. They were there to catch a spark of life and bring him back with Miss Parker.

It was like Jarod had known they were there. Like he hadn't wanted to go back to a life which waited for him. He wanted to live like that never again. He was in peace.

He managed to get away the this time too. But this was the last time. It lasted forever.
