Height
Fuji was seven when Yuuta started growing taller than him.
'It's just a phase,' said his mother and sister. 'You'll start growing soon too, Syuusuke.'
Fuji didn't mind, not really. In fact, he thought it was cool that now he could share t-shirts with Yuuta, even though Yuuta tended to spill things on them.
But sometimes when he was lying in his bed and trying not to think about the pirate skeleton that lived inside the walls, he would wonder what if, maybe, Yuuta kept on growing and growing and growing, and he never stopped, and he grew so tall that his head poked above the clouds and into space? Because then he'd be so tall Fuji wouldn't be able to talk to him any more, and Fuji didn't want that: all he wanted to do was share t-shirts.
Fuji was nine when he and Yuuta decided to bake their mother a pie for her birthday. Fuji thought it would be interesting to experiment, but Yuuta was adamant they had to follow the recipe.
'Because mommy always makes pies like that!', he said when Fuji asked him why.
In the end, Fuji decided it was better to keep Yuuta happy, and contented himself with adding an extra spoonful of vanilla. Their mother said the pie was delicious; Fuji thought it would have tasted better if he'd put in some of that Tabasco sauce.
Fuji was eleven when he realized Yuuta didn't like him any more. For a while he considered giving up his tennis, but decided that wouldn't be enough. Yuuta wouldn't be happy unless he won fair and square, and until he did that – or realized he didn't need to – nothing Fuji did would make him happy.
Yuuta was only six centimeters taller than him, but he might as well have had his head in space.
