Heart's Door

by Ggunsailor

A prompt from askchiandrea and arzine from my Tumblr. They wanted warming up after a snowball fight. Enjoy!

Anna was damp, breathless, and almost frozen.

And she'd never felt better in her life.

But it did help that she was warming up now.

You would have thought that she would not have a snowball fight w/ Elsa anymore; after all her sister could create snowballs bigger than her head and fling them like a catapult.

But if she was honest with herself, the reason she continued to engage in them was for what happened after.

Right now, they were currently curled up on a sofa in front of the roaring fireplace in Elsa's room, wrapped in a warm blanket with mugs of hot cocoa.

She liked this fireplace, mostly because it had carving's from a fairy tale she had read as a child. It seemed that the artisan who carved it had a love of it, too.

"Anna."

"Hmm?"

The queen grinned and kissed her sister on her forehead. "Where were you just now?"

"Just thinking, I guess." Anna placed her empty mug down on the floor. "Mama used to read us this fairytale. Do you remember it?"

Elsa was surprised she recalled that. "I think so. Wasn't it about someone who tried to keep their lover by their side if they won a game of hide-and-seek?"

Anna nodded and cuddled closer, tucking her head under her sister's chin. "Mmm-hmm, but then this old man teaches them a spell that lets them hide in their lover's heart."

"I remember that." The blonde girl ran a hand down Anna's back. "It would be interesting if such a spell did exist."

Anna was quiet, gazing into the flames again; then she looked up at the queen. "Elsa?"

"Hmm?" She looked down.

Anna prayed that she wouldn't sound too corny, sat up a little, and placed her hand on Elsa's chest. Taking a deep breath, she recited:

"Three times I knock at your door, dear heart.
Let me in, heart's jewel, let me in."

An amused and loving smile appeared on Elsa's face, and she took the hand and gently kissed the palm. "You're already in, Anna. And that was terribly corny."

"Hey! You-you can't blame me for being corny!"

"No, I suppose I can't." And with that, she kissed her sister, reveling in the feel of Anna's warmth.

Nothing could ruin this moment.

By the way, there IS an actual fairy tale like the one mentioned in the story called "Heart's Door" from Finland. You can find it in this wonderful book called "Illustrated Fairy Tales" by Neil Philip and illustrated by Nils Milstry.
