"VASH!" A worried Meryl Strife called for Vash in his deserted apartment.
"Look Meryl!" Millie, Meryl`s partner from the insurance company, pointed to a piece of paper on a well-made bed. Meryl exitedly, yet worrily, picked up what seemed to be a letter. Afraid that Vash might have left her for someone else, Meryl began to read it quietly:
Dear Meryl,
As much as I love you, I must leave. Last night I got a telegram from an old friend of mine. He says that an enemy from the past was looking for me. I dont know how, but he tracked me to his house. Refusing to tell, my enemy shot him. He had enough strength to write the warning and send it. I have many friends, but only one true enemy - Legato. I don`t know how he survived. He will find me sooner or later. I don`t want you getting hurt. So please, don`t go out looking for me. Please explain this to Millie. She wont understand by just reading this letter. Goodbye and remember that I will always love you.

Drops of tears fell from Meryl`s soft cheeks and on to the letter.
"Why Vash? Why?" Meryl slowly yet somehow angrily said this over and over again. Millie, without words, getting a sense of what the letter had said, walked over to Meryl to comfort her.
"Whatever he did, he did it out of love for you."
