Mistletoe

Lurlinemas break was hardly a break for Elphaba Thropp. She would be meeting the Wizard of Oz in a few short weeks, and her stress level was growing. Galinda had taken to gauging her stress level by how high her stack of books was. Today was a high-stress day. Approaching her door room, precariously balencing said pile of books, she was eventually able to free one of her hands in order to reach for the doorknob; it was locked. She cursed herself- she knew her keys were sitting on her desk, next to her gold and gilded letter from the Wizard, inviting her to the City.

She tried to pound on the door. She had told Galinda to leave the door unlocked, that she would be back in a few minutes... that had shifted to a little over an hour, but still! "Galinda, open the door, now!"

"Oops! Sorry Elphie!" Galinda called from the inside.

Elphaba heard footsteps approaching the door, but too heavy to be the little blonde. "You're not Galinda." Was all she could manage when she saw Fiyero, who let her in. Well, that certaintly explains why she locked the door.

He laughed. "No, I'm not." He tried to take her stack of books from her, but she wouldn't let him, out of a feminist moment.

Just as she stepped over the threshold, Galinda squealed and pointed to the doorframe. "Oh! I forgot about that!"

The room had been decked out for Lurlinemas. Green and gold candles covered the room, bits of ribbon used to decorate. With growing horror and realization, Elphaba slowly twisted to look up at the door. A leafy green plant-thing with white berries was strung up there, tied with a scarlett ribbon. "Mistletoe," she said, rather terrefied.

"Looks like Elphie and Fiyero get the first mistletoe kiss this year!" Galinda laughed, clearly finding the idea of her handsome, swankified boyfriend giving her geeky, nerd of a roommate a kiss cute or something.

Elphaba was considering running off, or hiding, or something, but knew if she did, Galinda would never let her hear the end of it. So she stood like a frightened deer. For his part, Fiyero looked more than a little awkward, trying to gauge whether his girlfriend really wanted him to kiss her best friend or not. If he wanted to kiss Elphaba. He smiled then. "Well, I suspose it is tradition..." He quickly kissed Elphaba, before she had a chance of squirming away.

With her eyes widened, she quickly put her books down on her desk, grabbed her key, and slid out of the room. Only when she was outside in the cold wintery air again, did she realize how deeply she was blushing.
