TNA Victory Road 2011 Main event

I got asked if I had witnessed the pay-per view and I have to admit, I did not witness the whole pay-per view; needless to say it was an Ok event I would not rate even four stars. But what really got my attention was the main event for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, Sting (the champion) vs Jeff Hardy.

On the TV show, TNA Impact, which happened the Wednesday prior the two had a match, at that time their roles were reversed as in Jeff was champion. After Sting completely destroyed Hardy, a rematch was set for the following Sunday. The match was poor, Hardy looked as if he wasn't even there half the time and he under sold most of Sting's moves. But was really appalling was what happened at the end of the match, Sting hits his finishing move the Scorpion Death Drop after which he pins Hardy for the three count. Then immediately afterwards Hardy jumps up like nothing was wrong with him, for those who don't know there is a wrestling term called "selling"; it means when something happens in the match you make it look like it was worse then it actually was. To make matters worse, Hardy got in the face of referee Brian Hebner and seemed to think it was HIS fault; Brian Hebner did not count fast or slow, he counted at average speed. The thing is Hardy no sold Sting's finish, now Sting is a professional wrestling Icon and no selling an Icon's finish can be seen as offensive to that Icon. Of course this came back to bite Hardy, Hulk Hogan legitimately denounced Hardy on TV and he no showed the rest of 2011 and early 2012.

The surprising part of this whole incident is that Sting defended Hardy, although I'm not sure exactly what he said to defend Hardy but he did. Which for me reinforced Sting's rightfully held status as a wrestling icon.
