THE SECRET STAR
~PROLOGE~
IN THE GOAL OF CANDEL LIGHT
April 30th, 1933
Somewhere in the middle of Berlin was an apartment. While the city seemed alive, dotted with street and bathed in the glow of city light this apartment seemed shrouded in blackness. The curtains were pulled tight, concealing the outside world. Maybe it was the shield their eyes from their eyes from the world of swastikas and goose stepping solders. Maybe they were trying to shield their eyes from the stores tainted with yellow stars they knew so well. No one could have realized the truth. The simple reality was they were not trying to conceal themselves from the world. No they were trying to keep prying eyes from looking in. It didn't matter that the apartment was to far up for any normal human to see into. Extra pro caution was needed. Anything to make sure no one outside of that small apartment could see. The lights were even turned off. Instead the box size living room was lit by the gentle glow of candles.
Sitting on an old, ratty green couch were four adults; three men and one woman. Their faces were tight with fear and anxiety. Their tired, almost haggard appearance was only emphasized by the candle light , giving them an almost haunting appearance. They refused to look at each other. Instead the look at the floor, their hands and feet or even at the candle light. The woman's lips, which were usually full and lushish were painted in a thin line, akin her look far older than her 27 years. In fact, one could say they all appeared older than their real age.
Finally, the oldest of the group spoke. He said,
"Well…"
All pairs of eyes, two brown and one blue starred at him.
"Well what?" The brown eyed man snapped. He was immediately hushed by his younger brother, the one with the blue eyes. The brown eyed man rolled his eyes, earning a stern glare from his brother.
"It seems we're in a dilemma." The oldest of the group continued, as if his eldest son hasn't snapped. Silence fell over the group once again as a wave of acknowledgment washed over them.
They were indeed in a dilemma.
A sigh broke through the quiet, causing all heads to snap towards the blue eyed man.
"We don't say a word that's what. We go on with life, but we don't tell Elsa or anyone else for that matter anything." He concluded, his voice smooth and somewhat distant.
"But… Ludwig, we can't tell her anything about her parents. She won't know anything about who she really is." The woman spoke, her voice shaking ever so slightly. The blue eyed man nodded solely and ran his fingers through his thick blonde hair.
"I know, but we don't have another choice. It's for her own good."
