A New Gift

She looks at the egg, it begins to wobble. More so than it did days earlier, only a fool would assume that it was doing anything but preparing to hatch. She observes it, and taps it once, just to quiet the little racket he's making.

He also observes it. He carefully adjusts the light that he's built for him so that it shines more on the egg. A warm egg is a happy egg, apparently.

She comments out loud about how she believes that it's going to be beautiful when it grows up. He nods in agreement, and she can tell from his aura that he's glad she rescued the poor thing from the Island.

Then, it happens. The schtick hits the fan to be specific. Her next comment is in regards to what kind of duck he would turn out to be. While Dawn is busy pondering the outcomes, B blinks twice and looks at the egg. Unless he's horrendously failed biology, he was pretty sure that this was was a chicken egg.

He brings up the situation, which causes her to double take and then frown at him. She shoots the possibility down on the basis that she knows more about animals than him, and would most likely know a duck egg if she saw one.

He retalliates by silently making it clear that he's studied books longer than she has, and as a result, knows what a chicken egg looks like by default.

They argue for a few more minutes, until the egg finally hatches. She's the first to realize that the problem has turned into an argument, and in order to preserve their normally peaceful nature, she suggests that they just check the egg's result and that the loser calmly put down their argument.

He nods in agreement, and they both check the egg. However, they were both unprepared to see a chicken and duck hybrid poke his head out of the egg.

She brings up the realization that while it was an egg, it came from the Island...

They make up soon after.
