Prologue
It was a sunny day in Panem, my hometown. Birds were chirping, The Farmer's Market was open and busy, neighbors helping each other out, until Panem was called to go into the maze. If you don't know what the maze was, you were put in a stone maze 50 stories tall, left alone in the dark and daylight. You had no help, everyone was placed in their own cell released separately. If you found someone and both of you were alive, you're lucky. Several people can escape the maze, it's just no one survives. You're given 3 months in the maze or the walls close in, crushing you until your bones pop out of your chest, blood flying everywhere, and guts coming out of your mouth. If you were put in the maze, you knew you would die.
There was only six people in the whole town of Panem that has survived the maze. To enter the maze you must be a minimum age of 13. If there weren't enough teens to be in the maze they'd start to throw children in as well. There were 200 spots in the maze. Every two years they release newbies into the maze but every time the maze gets changed so no one could study the maze.
Oh, I am pretty sure I forgot to introduce myself. Hi, I'm Katie Wellsburg. I've never been in the maze or hope to go near that gate. I'm just a small girl living in a big world to catch on a dream of leading Panem to help children not suffer.
The maze was over in three months. There goes another 200 people. No one survived the maze this time just like usual. Thankfully Panem was populated with over four million human beings. This is where the story begins.
