AN: Just a little one-shot from Eric's POV while he and Sookie discuss Bill's abduction in S03E02.

Disclaimer: I don't own True Blood or any of the books the series is based off of.
"Disturbingly Human"
The tears begin to slide down Sookie's beautiful face and something twists awkwardly inside of me. And then the sounds: the pitiful little whimpering sobs. The twisting thing contorts further, filling me with feelings I do not wish to feel.
Compassion. Sympathy. Caring. For this poor mortal girl crying out for help because the "love of her life" is gone and she's unable to help him. These are humane emotions, they have no use to a master vampire like myself. I'm a Sheriff for Odin's sake! Not some freshly turned, mainstreaming, noob. I'm above the foolishness of emotive response. A vampire is always in control of his emotions. Always.
If I'm not, if I allow this empathy to rule me, then I'm no better than foolish Bill Compton. If I cannot reel in this feeble desire to soothe Sookie's pain, to erase all the sorrows of her life, then I'm no than the creatures I hunt.
"Don't do that." I manage after a moment, still frozen with indecision between brushing her off like the vampire I am and comforting her like the man I was. "It makes me feel…" Sad. Upset. Concerned. Protective. "…disturbingly human."
