It was crazy; he knew it himself. He could have had anyone in the world, having the ability to capture the heart of any and everyone. But his own heart had told him, and it told him clear. It had to be her, no one but her. And so he had tried, hanging onto that miniscule bit of hope that somehow there was a chance. He hadn't known that he had been reaching for something far out of grasp to begin with.
Because even while she smiles at him, her clear blue eyes would be looking into a whole different world that he could never see. And even as she tells him that everything she does is for him, she does it out of love for him as a country, not him as a person.
And out of all reason, he finds that she's the only one who he can ever truly give his heart to. She's the only one that had ever been able to steal his once unattainable heart. She is the one that can make him feel love like no other, she is the one that can make him hurt beyond comprehension, she is the one that he can only look at and never touch.
She is the one that still lives on in his battered heart, even while he's standing at her grave. Because you always want what you can't have.
