Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's "A Big Day for Thomas" from Season 1. Enjoy and comment.
Thomas the Tank Engine was grumbling to the other engines.
"I spend all my time pulling coaches, and I never get to go out on journeys!"
The other engines laughed.
"Why can't I pull passenger trains too?"
"You're too impatient." said Gordon, "and you are bound to leave something behind."
"Rubbish!" said Thomas. "I'll show you!"
The next morning, Henry was ill. His driver and fireman couldn't make him start.
Henry usually pulled the first train of the day, and since he was ill, he couldn't do it.
But Thomas got his coaches ready anyways, just in case another engine was to do his route.
"Come along, come along!" he fussed.
"There's plenty of time, there's plenty of time!" grumbled the coaches.
Then, an idea flew into Thomas's funnel.
"If Henry is ill, perhaps I should do his route!" he thought.
Thomas took the coaches to the platform. He wanted to run around in front.
"Don't be impatient Thomas!" reminded his driver.
The passengers boarded the coaches, and Thomas waited for the other engine to arrive, but it didn't!
Thomas got more and more excited!
But the passengers weren't excited. They were cross, and were now complaining that this was a bad railway.
Sir Topham Hatt heard the commotion, and came out to see what was the matter.
"Henry is ill." said the stationmaster. "They couldn't get him to start this morning."
"Find another engine!" he ordered.
"There is no other train to do his route." said the conductor. "All the other engines are busy with their jobs."
"What about Thomas?" asked Sir Topham Hatt.
"Why not?" said the stationmaster. "He has never pulled a train before."
Then, Sir Topham Hatt turned to Thomas.
"You'll have to do it then Thomas." he said.
So Thomas ran 'round to the front, and coupled up to the coaches.
But Thomas was too excited to listen.
Then, it happened. The driver accidentally pulled the lever by mistake, and Thomas puffed off... without the coaches!
The passengers were surprised.
As Thomas puffed along, signalman and people. waved and shouted at Thomas.
"They're waving because I'm such a splendid engine." thought Thomas.
Then, he saw a red signal light. That meant there was danger.
"Bother!" he thought. "I was going so nicely too!"
The signalman came up to Thomas.
"Where are your coaches?" he asked.
Then, Thomas realized that he had forgotten the coaches!
"Oh dear!" he said. "I am a silly engine!"
Poor Thomas was so upset that he nearly cried.
"Cheer up!" said his driver. "Let's go back and try again."
At the station, the passengers weren't cross, but they were glad to see Thomas arrive.
Thomas coupled to the train, and this time he really pulled it!
Afterwards, whenever another engine saw Thomas, they laughed and said.
"Look! It's Thomas who wanted to pull a train, but forget the coaches!"
Thomas had learned to never make the same mistake when pulling coaches again.
