Prologue
Camp McCarran, 2281
I stood at attention as the drill sergeant stood and handed me a service rifle.
"Good job, completing training Private Johnstien. You will be given your orders soon."
I nodded and saluted to the sergeant as she held her rifle. She tried to hold back a smile as she stood, waiting. I walked to my bunk with her friend, Xavier.
Another man walked in handed me a letter.
I looked up and noticed was the letter that she had sent her parents last week, returned unopened.
I sighed and thought to myself "Why can't they just let go...Don't the know I'm helping them?" I tossed the letter in my box with the rest of the letters that were unopened.
Xavier must have noticed my annoyance because he asked "Another letter Susie..?" I nodded and laid back on the pillow that was as hard as a rock.
"Yup...I might love my parents but they can be annoying as hell" Xavier laughed "Very true Susie, did I tell you why I enlisted?" I shook my head no.
He looked up and though for a second. "I joined for the complete opposite reason, my dad told me to get lost and join the NCR, said better help there than in the farm." He chuckled "Yet, were best friends opposites attract I suppose"
I chuckled as well, he was the only real friend I made at the McCarran, sadly we were most likely to be split up once our orders came in on where to go. We only had one more night left before the orders came in.

I sighed as I laid in bed in my uniform wondering where I would be deployed. I and Xavier were the only ones in the barracks at the time. I was thinking of everything, my parents were I was going to be deployed and whether I was going to live.
I wished I could fight against the Legion, those slaving scumbags treated everybody like shit. But then again there the Fiends and some other groups. I laid in my bed hoping I would go somewhere nice. I feel asleep
When I woke up and finally got my orders. I sighed. I was to be sent to Hoover Dam to help reinforce the troops there. I turned to Xavier "Were you going to?"
He replied, "Camp Searchlight, sounds like fun!" I nodded and stood up. "I need to find the group that is going to the Dam. I thought to myself "Well this is it, time to be a soldier"
