Warning: If you like Guy Gardener, don't read. If you have no idea who Guy is, he's a the worst Green Lantern of earth.
Disclaimer: I don't own any DC comics characters.
Don't mess with Robin
The whole watch tower seemed to go silent, except for the near silent whimper from a small boy in green, red, yellow, and black. No one could really believe any hero could make Robin cry. He seemed so happy and upbeat. Few knew about the nightmares that still plagued him.
It was entirely Green Lantern's fault. He had been annoyed with the boy, and suggested, "Why don't you go bug your father?" He had realized immediately what he had just said and the problem it would cause.
The only sound was the snap of a cape as Batman moved otherwise silently forward and picked up his ward. He pulled him in close, running his fingers through the boys hair, shushing him, and telling him everything would be okay.
Most people would think it impossible for someone going through those motions to shoot a glare that made the strong willed Green Lantern want to beg for mercy. Most people haven't seen Batman in overprotective father mode.
Robin was sobbing quietly. There was now no other noise, though if you asked, you may hear some claim that Green Lantern let out his own whimper as a glare that could destroy worlds was aimed at him.
The entire League learned that day, never make Robin cry, for fear of Daddybats.
Who knew why the young Lantern had so blatantly disregarded their warnings. He was twenty years older than Robin, and yet he still bullied the child.
The usually cheery child was often eager to go to the watch tower, but it was no more. It escalated slowly. It started off with poking. Robin didn't seem to notice this. Then he would jab an elbow between his ribs. Robin ignored this as best he could, like he did with the bullies at school.
No one knew what made Robin fight back that day. Maybe it was the encounter with Joker. Maybe it was his already bruised ribs getting painfully jabbed. Batman wasn't there that day, so the young Lantern had been more free in his assault. The shouting match ended when a fist swung towards the Boy Wonder's face. That was all it took.
Cheery Robin was gone. Here was the side kick to the most feared Leaguer. Here was the boy that thugs thought twice about attacking. Here was the boy that proved himself in a city that fought back harder than any bully ever could. The fist never even made it half way.
The young Guy Gardener woke up tied upside down from the rafters of the gym. His power ring was missing. He was in only his underwear. He saw the red R painted on his chest. All who attempted to help him get down, or just laughed at the sight of the lantern learned, you don't mess with Robin.
