Starry Nights

I laid on my back staring at the millions of stars above me. The grass had some dew on it and it was just chilly enough to need a hoodie. It was quiet. I was glad to be by myself. I had a lot to think about tonight. The prophecy, Annabeth, my dad and her mom, Grover, the rest of my friends. What would happen in this big war to come? What if something bad happened to me or worse, Annabeth or Grover? I would never be able to forgive myself if something happened to either of them. And one of the big things at that time- my relationship with Annabeth.

My thoughts were interrupted by something rustling in the bushes. I sat straight up and could feel the hairs on my neck do the same. I clenched Riptide with a white knuckle grip ready for anything. I saw a shadowy figure approach me and I uncapped Riptide.

"Whoa, Seaweed Brain. A little jumpy tonight?" Just Annabeth. I put the cap on Riptide and settled back down into the soft grass.

"Sorry about that. I just have a lot on my mind," I said as my eyes returned to the astonishing sky.

"Can I join you?" said the girl who I had known for years and who had became my best friend.

I hesitated before replying, "Yeah. Sure."

I scooted over a little bit and she laid down beside me. "Beautiful tonight isn't it?" she said as her eyes fixed into the night.

"Yeah. This is one of my favorite things to do."

"Look at the stars?" It was silent for a few moments. "Me too. If only it wasn't so cold tonight."

I looked over and saw her hands draped around her body attempting to stay warm. "You cold?"

"Freezing." I took off my hoodie and handed it to her. "You sure?" she asked with the stars reflecting off of her big gray eyes. She looked absolutely amazing tonight. Well she looks amazing all the time, but tonight she looked extra incredible.

"Yeah. I'm not cold."

It was silent for a while. I was actually kind of nervous which seemed to keep happening more often when I'm around Annabeth. "So…" she said to break the silence, "A lot on your mind huh? Like what?"

I hesitated, knowing I couldn't tell her what I was actually thinking. "Everything," I said hoping she wouldn't press harder on it.

She sighed in a disappointed kind of way. "The prophecy?"

"Yeah."

"Look," she started, "I just want you to know that no matter what happens, I'll be right behind you." I turned to look at her and for a minute we locked eyes. I saw tons of memories through her eyes. I had no clue when it came to Annabeth. She was an absolute mystery to me. She broke the gaze and stuttered, "GGGrover too."

"Yeah I know. You're a really great friend." I leaned over and softly kissed her on the cheek.

"Grover too?" she said with a crooked smile on her face and her eyebrows raised.

"Grover too."

We both looked back up at the sky. We stayed there until the morning sun rose. Just staring at the stars and spending time with each other.

Kind of short I know but I was bored. Please review!
