A Son's Farewell
Lucius Malfoy had led a terrible life, but Draco didn't think even his father deserved to die like this. Lucius was dying from a seizure that had put him in a coma and weakened the entire right side of his body. The doctors didn't think he'd make it through the night he was so frail.
Draco thought quietly on this as he sat beside his father's bed. He heard the steady ping in the background that meant his father's heart was still working, for now.
Though Draco had never been close to his father, he realized this very well might be the last time he'd ever get to speak to him. It didn't matter he was unconscious. Draco had read somewhere people in comas could hear you. He suddenly had a lot to say.
"Father," he said to Lucius's unconscious form. " I want you to know I forgive you. You may or may not be sorry, but I forgive you.
"You'll be with mother now." Draco choked up at the thought of his mother, who had died some years before. " I used to wonder why she didn't leave you. I know now, of course."
Draco simply stared at his lap for a long time. He really did miss his mother. She had always been of real importance to him. Losing her had been devastating. He wasn't sure how he would cope with the loss of his father as well.
Draco stifled a sob before he continued, "Even if you had strange ways and others disapproved of your parenting style, you were a good father. I learned a lot from you."
He reached out and in a gesture completely unlike the pair, took Lucius's hand in his own. "Scorpius is going to miss you being a part of his life, even now as a young man. Tell Mother I miss her." Then slipping out of any formality, "I love you, Dad."
In that moment Lucius Malfoy passed on from this life.
