The guards threw Dimitri out. He collapsed on the floor. He stared at the closing door behind him frustration. He turned around to see Anya standing with her hand on her hip. He looked up to find her looking heartbroken. Oh no, he thought. Did she hear everything?

"It was all a lie, wasn't it?" she murmured in a sad voice. That confirmed his worries.

"No, no-" Dimitri stammered.

Anya started to walk away, then turned back around to face him, her eyes expressing how betrayed she felt. "You used me? I was just part of a con to get her money?"

"No!" he protested.

Anya turned around and walked away, tears builded up in her eyes.

Dimitri ran after her. "But it only started out that way! Now everything's changed! You really are Anastasia! You really are!"

Anya spun around in anger. "Oh, stop it!" She shoved him. "From the very beginning, you lied!" She shoved him again. And not only did I believe you, I actually - UGH!" she groaned as she continued to walk away.

Dimitri had to do something to convince her. "Anya, I was the little boy who saved your life!" he shouted.

Anya turned around to face him in disbelief. "What?!"

"Remember when you spoke of hidden door opening in the wall, and the little boy? That boy was me!" he exclaimed.

"Oh, shut up, Dimitri!" Anya yelled. "Like you expect me to believe that!"

"It's true!" he argued. "I have the music box right here!" He grabbed the music box from his pocket and showed it to her frantically. "Remember this-"

Anya slapped the music box out of his hand, letting it roll across the floor.

"It doesn't matter!" she snapped. "Do you even realize what you've done? Do you think I've ever cared whether or not I was a princess? All my life, I've been an orphan. All I ever wanted was a home and family! Even if you were telling the truth, it would only make it worse! How you would save my life and then years later take advantage my dreams just to get rich!"

Her words punched Dimitri right in the gut. She was right. Absolutely right. He wasn't that selfless little boy anymore. He was a con man. A worthless kitchen boy turned con man, only caring for his pathetic life.

"I should have known this was all a trick! Someone like me, the Grand Duchess Anastasia. What a joke!"

"Anya, I'm so sorry…I-"

"Don't!" she yelled. "Nothing you say or do will make this any better. It doesn't matter whether I'm the Grand Duchess or not. You don't care. All you ever cared about was getting those rubles."

"Anya -" Dimitri begged. He was almost on the edge of confessing his love for her.

"Just leave me alone!"

Dimitri grabbed her arm, desperation in his eyes. Anya glared and smacked him across the face. Dimitri stumbled back from the impact. Anya stormed off into the crowd.

"Anya, please!" Dimitri yelled after her. "You have to know the truth!"
