You know who asked
He caught her walking down the dim lit street, her hair dancing in the wind. She'd left everything on good terms, helped them so much and the goodbye she'd given should have been enough. But he needed more. Needed to have his suspicions confirmed no matter how hard her answer might be to bare.
She turned around before he could call out, her eye's seemed to move like the ocean and the sad smile she greeted him with made him want to turn around and run. She'd only arrived in beacon hills a week ago but her presence had done something to all of them. Somehow eased their worries, made them all feel a little less scared of what was happening around them, but when she said she had to go no one fought it. It was who she was. What she was.
He wasn't actually sure what she was. Other than being somebody he had seemed to trust almost immediately upon meeting her, who put everything at ease. Lydia had a theory, and given the connection the girls had made and the fact that she was Lydia he figured she was most certainly right. An angel of sorts. A type of guardian.
"What are you?" He blurted it out without thought.
She tilted her head with a sort of curiosity he couldn't quite place before speaking "Is that the question you really wanted to ask?"
"No"
"Who asked you to come here" he continued "Me and Stiles are pretty sure that's how it works, right? Someone asks you to go to a town, check on things, and make sure people are alright. If they need any help or a lift in confidence you give it to them… yeah?"
She steps a little closer and the starlight seems to skip across her skin "something like that" is her reply.
"Who asked you to come here" she can hear his voice start to break as he asks again.
"You know who asked" is all she says.
A smile spreads across his face and he lets out a small laugh of relief.
"Is she uh… how is she"
"She's okay, she's always watching Scott. Watching you, watching Lydia, Stiles. Everyone. She's quite proud of you all you know"
"Yeah" he whispers back. "Could you tell her that I uh"
She cuts him off before he can finish "She already knows"
When he looks up at her again there's no one there, and he wipes the tears that have started to fall away. He can hear his name being called and then Lydia's at his side.
"You were right, it was allison who asked" he says looking up at the stars
Lydia laughs and replies "of course I was. of course she did"
