Happiness

A white fluffy kitten looked up begging for food. Mikasa looked around quickly to make sure nobody was watching her before bending down to pet the kitten's soft head. The kitten began to purr in content.

"Shhh…"

Mikasa broke off some bread and gave it to the kitten. If anyone had seen her giving her food to the kitten she would have been in a lot of trouble. Food was scarce after all and owning pets was not allowed. Mikasa had adopted the stray under unusual circumstances. She didn't usually like animals but despite her annoyance with the kitten, it followed her around everywhere. She relented eventually allowing the kitten to take up a small place in her heart. The kitten gave her a small piece of happiness to hold on to. She smiled a little at the kitten before turning to leave. When she turned around she came face to face with Eren.

"E-Eren…"

"What are you doing Mikasa?"

"N-nothing!"

"Don't lie, I saw you feeding that kitten."

"Shhh! Please don't tell anyone!"

Eren looked annoyed.

"I wouldn't do that."

Eren bent down to scratch the kitten behind the ears. The kitten nuzzled it's soft head into his hand. He laughed.

"Hey, that tickles!"

Eren's laugh made Mikasa smile. It had been a long time since either of them had smiled. They sat next to each other taking turns petting the cat and feeding it bread. Eren turned his head to look at Mikasa's smiling face. If only they could stay like this forever. As if feeling his gaze, Mikasa turned to look at Eren. Their eyes locked, bright turquoise looking into dark grey. The moment lingered on a bit longer until Eren leaned in and brushed his lips against Mikasa's. It was a perfect first kiss. Mikasa pulled away slightly breathless.

"I love you Eren!"

Eren pulled Mikasa to him and rested his chin on top of her head before whispering in her ear,

"I love you too."

The white ball of fluff behind them purred softly. Mikasa smiled to herself and thought, Maybe this is all the happiness I need.
