Hell Hath No Fury
Ann B. Harding
I knew the moment I saw her she would be trouble. A shabby appearance hiding
that sleek, almost elegant design. A ship like that does not come to look like
that shuttle did without a good reason.... Like she constantly asks for then
her pilots are able to give.
It is an important distinction. Not more then they wanted to give, more then they were able to give. I saw that this "Alice" was a ship that did not care if she used all her pilot had and when he (it almost always a he who gets sucked in by this kind of ship - female pilots have far more sense when it comes to fast ships) has finally had enough and says "No, enough.... I won't do any more." she demands even more. But there was nothing I could do, nothing I could say. Not that it would have mattered. Even if I had be some how able to warn Chakotay or the Captain they would have said I was jealous... that I was worried that shuttle would replace me in my pilot's heart.
Not that they would be completely wrong. I was jealous of all the time that I knew that Tom would spend repairing that shuttle. But I was used to my helmboy's wandering eye. It never bothered me, because those relationships never lasted very long. It was to me he always came back to. Me who he caressed day in and day out - when he wasn't working in sick-bay. The Delta Flyer was the only one that ever come close to stealing him away, but it wasn't the same. The Flyer is literally his creation, and in many ways his baby. No his love of the Flyer was very different then his love for me – Voyager -his lady.
No, it was just jealously. It was also a feeling deep in my neural packs that there was far more to the small ship meet the eye, and none of it was good. She was tucked off in a corner, hidden amongst the .real derelicts. I could see her potential, but then ships can always tell about each other. I also knew there was only one other person who would be able to see it as well. Tom Paris may have a roving eye for ships, but he knows quality when he saw it... and whatever else that ship was, she was well designed.
At first I hoped that Tom would not able to convince Chakotay that the "derelict" ship was worth all the time and trouble it would take to make her space worthy, but Tom's eagerness, and the cheap price, made it hard to say no.
I don't know why everyone is so focused on what that slut ship did to B'Elanna Torres and no one seems to care about what she got Tom to do to me. Not only did he steal parts from me, parts of me, for her -she actually got him to fire her weapons on me. I admit, there was no damage - but even so, principle of the matter. A pilot does not fire on his own ship. And yet he did just that. Because she made him. He would never have done that if it wasn't for her…
Still no matter how much he gave, she keeps demanding more. And Tom, sucker
for the sleek design and speed that he is gives to her. Oh, I know there was
more to it then that, she knew exactly what to say, what to do to get Tom to do
what she wanted.
There was one thing that gave me hope. I knew that once Kathryn Janeway was aware of what was happening she would put a stop to it. The only problem was that for some reason she had been hiding in her ready room during the time Tom was under working on her.. By the time Captain Janeway had even a hint that anything was wrong Tom was under that slut's complete control.
Now we are on our way to get Tom back. And when we do catch up with them, this crew is going to teach that ship a lesson she won't soon forget. No one, but no one, kidnaps my "helmboy" and gets away with it.
