On Death's Door
AN: This one shot is a rewite of the Todd/Blair scene that took place on Wednesday October 5th 2011. In this rewrite Marty finds Todd instead of Blair.
Marty went to Vicky's Cabin. Vicky had been gracious enough to allow Marty to stay there for a couple of weeks while she figured out her next move.
She instantly knew that something was wrong when she saw the front door open. Marty knew that she had locked up when she had left earlier. She pulled the mace out of her purse in case the intruder was still there.
She gasped when she turned the corner and saw Todd Manning lying in a puddle of blood.
"I don't think you'll have to mace me. You're finally going to get your wish. I'll be out of your life soon enough," Todd said in-between labored breaths.
Marty dropped the bottle of Mace and ran to Todd's side. "Who did this to you?" Marty asked as she pressed Vicki's pillows into Todd's side.
"My bitch of a mother shot me," Todd stated.
"We've got to get you to a hospital."
"No hospital. I can't go back to jail, besides what's the point I've got a date to meet my mother and brother in hell."
"Don't talk like that," Marty stated as she wiped his hair out of his face.
"Why not? We both know it's where I'm going."
"You're not going anywhere. I'm not going to let you die," Marty said as she stood up looking around for supplies.
"Why do you care if I live after all the pain I caused you?"
"I don't know. I just do, besides you owe me. So if you really want to make it up to me then you'll fight to live and we'll call it even," Marty said as she brought over the thread and pliers that she had found.
"We'll never be even. I'll always be in your debt."
"Vicky doesn't have any alcohol, so I'm afraid that this will hurt," Marty stated as she pulled the pliers from the boiling water. She let the pliers cool down and then she gently removed the bullet and stitched Todd's wound together with the needle and thread that she had found.
Marty stood up to go into the other room. "Don't go. I don't want to be alone," Todd stated.
"I'm going to be right back," Marty said as she left the room.
Marty brought out two pillows and a blanket. She slid one of the pillows underneath Todd's head and laid the other pillow by his side. She wanted to be as close to him as possible in case he needed her. He fell asleep in her arms feeling like there was hope. If Marty cared enough about him to pull him back from death's door then maybe he was worth saving after all.
