IN HONOR OF FATHER'S DAY, MY MUSE DECIDED WE NEEDED A ONE-SHOT ABOUT TEAM GIBBS. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK⦠AND HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL THE FATHERS OUT THERE!
It had been a long tiring day for the MCRT team at NCIS. They had spent the last 12 hours tracking down a marine who was wanted in connection with the murder of a Corporal and his family. In the end, as they always do, they got their man.
In true NCIS fashion, Tony, Ziva, and McGee powered down their computers and packed up their gear to head home. McGee put the finishing touches on his report before heading up the stairs to give it to Director Vance.
As Tony looked around for Gibbs, Ziva bade Tony goodnight before heading towards the head.
Tony picked up his pack and walked over to Gibbs' desk, placing an envelope on the keyboard. Tony made his way out of the bullpen and to the elevator.
The elevator doors dinged as McGee came back down the stairs from the catwalk. He grabbed his gear and headed towards the stairs, dropping an envelope on Gibbs' desk.
Ziva returned to the deserted bullpen. She turned off the desk lamp, grabbed her backpack, and placed an envelope on Gibb's desk before walking to the elevator.
Abby had shut down her equipment and turned the lights off, leaving her stereo for last. She grabbed her bags and coat, shut off the music, and took the elevator to the bullpen. She stopped at Gibb's desk to place an envelope on it before leaving for the night.
Ducky and Gibbs left Director Vance's office and headed for the stairs. Gibbs stopped at the bottom of the steps, leaving Ducky to walk through the bullpen alone. As he placed the hat on his head, he took notice of the pile of envelopes on Gibbs desk. He quickly turned the desk lamp on to stop Gibbs from missing his desk before he left, and proceeded to the elevator, a small smile on his face.
Gibbs cut the call short, again telling the man on the other line that he does not, and will not, ever, have a Volkswagen for sale.
He took notice of the light emanating from his desk in the bullpen. As he walked around his desk to grab his gear, he noticed a stack of envelopes, addressed to him.
He dropped down into the chair and pulled the lamp closer. Picking up his glasses, he put them on and opened the first envelope. Inside was a card from Abby.
A smirk crossed his lips before putting it down and picking up another. This one from Ziva. His smirk became a smile as he read through all four cards, a lone tear dropping from the corner of his eye.
He put the last cards down, from McGee and Tony, and opened the top drawer of his desk. The drawer that held his most valuable possessions. Though not of any monetary value, these items Gibbs held close to his heart. He took out the flask that was given to him by Shannon and Kelly, that he usually only drinks out of during the Marine Corps. Birthday, and took a sip.
Gibbs replaced the flask, added the cards to the drawer, and headed out for the night.
His thoughts were on the words that were in each and every card from the members of his team as he drove home.
They all said the same thing, "It is not flesh and blood but the heart which makes them fathers and sons. Happy Father's Day, Gibbs."
