Oh God, Tony thought to himself as he climbed into his car that night. She's not gonna sleep at all tonight. He drove slowly, not wanting to make it all the way home before getting the call that he knew would come.
As he drove through the city, nearly desolate at this hour, he thought about all of the times he had been summoned to her apartment over the last few years. Every now and then, a case would come and she would just… shut down. It took months before she was able to tell him about it, and several more before she finally asked him to help her. Eventually, her demons became too much to handle.
But why did he keep going back? He never got anything out of it. She would wipe her eyes and thank him. Sometimes he would leave, but sometimes, she would ask him to stay. She could never see how wide his smile got in the dark.
Rather than spend the twenty minute ride with his thoughts, Tony turned on the radio. Great, he thought, finding that the only station not on commercial was country. Trying to rescue himself from whining and twang, he focused on the lyrics.

Heh, sounds like someone I know, Tony thought. Ok, well, I've never actually kissed her for real, but that time I did… That perfect bottle of red still on her lips… Stop it DiNozzo! Get a hold of yourself.
