A tribute to my obnoxious twin.

Neji had never felt so embarassed, so humiliated, so stupid in his life. He sat down hard on a bench and buried his face in his hands. Why was he so stupid? He should have seen it coming.
--flashback--

Neji was at a party. Normally, he wouldn't go to a party, but he had something he wanted to tell someone. He just needed the right moment.

He walked through the group of people dancing and found the snack table. He just had to wait.

He looked over and noticed Sakura and her friends giggling at him. Sakura waved. He smiled slightly in acknowledgement. Yes, tonight would be the night.

The party seemed to drag on for hours after that, but really, it was only thirty minutes. Ino came walking toward with a grin on her face, along with another girl he didn't recognize. " Sakura is out in the garden, she said she wanted to talk to you."

Neji's heart quickened, and he walked swiftly towards the back door, which lead out to the garden. And there she was, looking immaculately beautiful in the moonlight. She smiled at him shyly, and turned her face away.

Neji's heart pounded in his chest. Now was the time to tell her, now, right now.

Neji opened his mouth. It took a few seconds for the words to form. " Sakura," he started, " I love you."

Sakura turned around and grinned at him. " You do?" she asked, sounding elated, more than anything. " Enough to show me what's on your forehead?"

Of course he'd tell her, he loved her. He'd never shown anyone before, but now was the best time. There should be no secrets between two people in love. He pulled his forehead protector off, his curse seal standing out on his pale forehead.

Sakura reached up gently, and touched it.

Then there was a flash.

And Sakura moved away, and her friends came out and started laughing, Ino waving around a camera.

And Neji ran.

Now he was here, sitting in the middle of the park at night. He was so stupid. Why did he go and do that? Why?

" Neji?" A soft voice interrupted his thoughts.

He looked up. There was Tenten. He quickly turned his face away. " Go away." He said.

Tenten sat down beside him, placing an arm around him. " Don't worry, they can't possibly mock you forever." She said matter of factly.

Neji laughed dryly. " Was that supposed to be comforting?"

Tenten shook her head. " That's about as comforting as it gets, but don't worry, Lee and I will beat their heads in if they mention it all. Is that more comforting?"

Neji smiled slightly. " I guess. I still feel stupid, though."

Tenten elbowed him. " So you had a crush. Big deal. Happens to everyone."

"Even you?" Neji asked.

"Even me." Tenten replied.

" On who?"

He felt Tenten shift uncomfortably. " Well...He's very pale..."

Neji snorted. Uchiha.

" and has silky, dark hair..."

Definitely Uchiha.

" A hereditary genjutsu..."

Yep. She was describing Uchiha down to the last detail.

" Is kind of quiet..."

Still Uchiha. Did she think she was actually making him guess?

He felt her tense up. She seemed annoyed somehow.

" Is completely clueless..."

She continued, with an edge to her voice.

" Darn it Neji! It's you!"

She yelled exasperatedly.

" Me?" Neji asked, living up to the clueless part.

Tenten shook her head. " For being a genius, you're pretty stupid!"

Neji looked back at her. " Well, this stupid genius just happens to like someone with brown hair and sharp tongue..."
