Break Away
Inara Serra most definitely didn't want to stay on Serenity.
She was a licensed Companion. There were better places to be than a den of petty thieves. And that was exactly what she meant— petty.
A loud slam of a lid brought her out of her stewing. She was getting angry. A few deep breaths to calm the mind, and...
And she was still angry. So very angry. What was she angry at? Not that... that melon-head. Of course not... Of course she was. Of course she was.
And that was why she was leaving. To stop being angry. At that idiot captain. That infuriating idiot who called her a whore.
"You have a strange sense of nobility, Captain. You'll lay a man out for implying I'm a whore, but you keep calling me one to my face."
"I might not show respect to your job, but he didn't respect you. That's the difference. Inara, he doesn't even see you."
Now she was angry and sad. That infuriating excuse for a captain... Come on, Inara. He wasn't worth this...
Oh, yes he was. Maybe he was an idiot and a petty thief, maybe he was infuriating, but he was so... Mal.
And for some unfathomable reason, she was head-over-heels in love with him. She was angry at that too.
And that— with another lid-slam— was why she had to leave.
Inara Serra most definitely wanted to stay on Serenity.
But she had to break away.
