Fandom: Twilight
Pairing: Jasper/Seth, Edward/Bella
Prompt: Studying

Bella Cullen's new life was wonderful. She was beautiful, she was no longer clumsy, she was fast and had better control than any newborn vampire the rest of her family had ever seen. The only thing not wonderful was that with her new vampirism she was not immediately a genius. And so she found herself sitting at the kitchen table in the Cullen main house with AP History books open before her, Edward sitting to her left quizzing her… and she wasn't doing well.

"Why isn't this coming easy?" Bella questioned. "I should just be able to look at this and remember!"

Edward chuckled. "Not that easy I'm afraid."

"But you're all smart," Bella stated with a pout.

"And we have been through high school multiple times," Edward answered. "Come now, just a few more questions and you'll be finished with this practice test."

Bella sulked even as she ran her foot lightly up Edward's leg. "But there are so many other things we could be doing."

"Test first."

Rolling her eyes Bella sighed and put her foot back on the floor. Edward had made up his mind and that was that. "Alright, next question."

"1619 is significant to Jamestown because the first blacks were brought from Africa and… a. Jamestown became a royal colony, b. the London Company went bankrupt, c. there was a serious Indian attack on the colony, d. the first elected legislative assembly, the House of Burgesses, convened," Edward read. Bella stared at him.

'I know that.'

Edward glanced over at the living room where Emmett and Seth had been playing some sort of video game. Emmett was searching for another game for them to play and Seth was looking curiously at the studying couple. Meeting Edward's gaze Seth stood and came into the kitchen, sinking into an empty chair.

'The answer is D,' Seth thought. Edward was surprised. Seth was still a couple of years from taking any AP courses. He gave a slight nod and Seth grinned.

Bella caught Seth's grin. "You know the answer don't you?"

"Yup!"

"How?"

"I'm smart," Seth replied. "Sam makes me study all the time."

"But you're studying world history, not US," Bella stated with a frown. Seth shrugged. Bella sighed and looked back at Edward. "B?"

"Incorrect. The correct answer is D. Next question. The description of Massachusetts Bay colony as a "city upon a hill" is related to the Puritan founders' idea that the colony should be… a. located in a healthful site, b. located in an easily defensible site, c. a refuge for all religious dissenters or d. a model for the world as a holy commonwealth."

'D.'

"That's an easy one," Bella stated with confidence. "The answer is B."

"Incorrect."

"What!"

"The correct answer is D."

"Yes!" Seth muttered under his breath. Bella shot him a glare.

"If you're so smart Seth, see how well you do with the rest of them."

Seth sat up straighter, a gleam in his eye at the challenge. "Alright, shoot Edward."

Edward read the questions and possible answers to all the questions on the practice test. Seth only got one wrong. Bella glared at them both angrily, especially when Edward praised Seth. She was supposed to be smart! Not… she glanced at Seth and his torn clothing… Seth Clearwater. Edward cleared his throat and Bella looked back at him, he was giving her a disapproving look. She huffed.

"How is it you know so much about US history when you haven't had the classes yet?" She wanted to know.

Seth grinned as Jasper entered the kitchen and rested his hands on Seth's shoulders. "I have a very smart boyfriend who happens to love history. We read lots of historical books and he quizzes me," Seth replied. "Plus what Sam makes me study."

"Seth likes to study random things," Jasper added. "He just absorbs everything."
