She was dreaming.
A dream without beginning, middle and end. Stuck inside memories, her memories. Their memories. Some place between sanity and insanity. Some place between undying love and infinite death.
A sea of people .So many faces, so many different races stuck in one place. She gulps, overcrowded places make her anxious. No familiar smiles there. She is alone, her N7 armor overweighting her presence there. An unknown among unknowns. Shadows. Figures. Her green eyes widened, her lips concretely closed.
"Where are you?" her brain whispers. Turning her head nervously, she starts searching for him, his steady form, his inky hair, his warm, chocolate-brown eyes, his graceful smile, his energy giving her strength.
She walks, surpassing all the unknowns blocking her path. Then she rushes, she runs. He is nowhere to be found. Tears start appearing at the lines of her face, crossing her cheeks. She is desperate and alone. Her head aches. She closes her eyes.
"Shepard!" his husky voice blushes out of nowhere, a plea for her to come. She blindly follows the source. It's him, calling her.
She finds him. Laid on the white floor, a pool of blood around him. His eyes closed, his head turned to her side…
And them she screams. An inhuman sob comes out of her lungs. She goes next to him and lies next to his blood, her hand resting on his chest. She closes her eyes again, never wanting to get up again. Ever.
A Reaper arrives over their heads. She hears the menacing sound of the machine. But nothing matters anymore. The ground trembles and she rests her other hand inside his. The end came and she was grateful about it.
She wakes up. Jolting her upper body up, she looks around her, her eyes examining carefully the place. It's our bedroom. Shepard thinks. White blankets, a smell of cleanness and silence. She looks next to her and sees him breathing, his strong chest moving in a patterned pace. He has a graceful smile in his face. Shepard stands still and keeps gazing him for a long time, feeling time standing still. As wet entities run down her face, Kaidan stirs and opens his eyes to see her gorgeous green ones stuck on him. He moves his body up to her height, his mouth a few inches away from her red lips. His thumb touches her cheeks slowly and feather-light and wipes her tears away.
"Was that a bad dream again?" he asks her sweetly, looking straight to her messed soul. She nods her head affirmatively. He cups her face in his palms, her own hands resting on his.
"Everything is over, Shepard. We won, you won. You are alive. And it's all that matters." Kaidan soothed her. Shepard rushed her head down to his chest and started sobbing, her hands encircling his waist. He took her in his embrace, pulling her close and started to stroke her back.
"I thought I lost you. I saw you were dead and then a Reaper attacked and…" she couldn't finish her phrase, as sobs overwhelmed her again. Kaidan felt her tears on his body. It really broke his heart to see her like this. Shepard was fully restored physically, but a heavy crash of PTSD made her psychologically unstable, handicapped. Shepard still wondered how Kaidan was still with her. She questioned his patience but then she figured out that his endless love for her gave him what he needed in order to move on.
"Sshhh, honey…I'm here and I will always be. He'll get through this together, I promise." Kaidan told her once again. She smiled, looking at him. And then he kissed her, slowly. She had shown no resistance and gave up to the grace of his tongue sliding in her mouth. When the kiss broke, he begun singing with his wonderful voice.
"Seasons may change…" he started.
"Winter to spring…" she continued.
Both voices united, their wedding bands shining through the moonlight.
"But I love you until the end of time…"
