Of Shots and Distractions

Sakuno's hand trembled while holding on to the IV. She set it down to avoid any accidents.

"A-are you sure you know what you're doing?" Normally, her ever apathetic boyfriend would be direct and blunt with his statements, but right now, it's a different story.

Sakuno took hold of the needle once again, trying her best not to drop it on the ground. "Erm, n-no, but Inui-senpai said that you really n-needed it."

His voice was strained. "Okay."

Ryoma looked at everything he could lay his eyes on except for the syringe that was only a couple of centimeters away from his arm. "H-here goes nothing…"

Pluck. "OW!"

"I'm so sorry, Ryoma-kun!"

Ryoma seethed at the offending object, still at the girl's grasp. The pain was still lingering on his shoulder; nonetheless, he didn't want to let his girlfriend think that he couldn't take a teensy shot.

Ah screw it.

He was afraid of needles and yet, here he was, sitting on the edge of the bed on the nurse's office, crumpling the bed sheets underneath him.

Bah, it's his fault why he's in this situation anyways. He refused to let Inui give him the shot, which could only take about a few seconds. The reason was obvious though—he didn't trust two dangerous things together.

Who knows what kind of vile he might add in there.

His teammates were sure to be laughing their heads off at his weakness somewhere.

He only agreed to this because she offered to do it. So technically, it was her fault why his ego is deflating right now.

"R-Ryoma-kun, there's still one more s-shot left…"

Sighing loudly, his shoulders slumped in a surrendering fashion. "Fine, let's get this over with."

He observed how Sakuno carefully took the needle once again, after filling it with the transparent liquid that the nurse had given them earlier. It's still a mystery why she can't do it herself, but now that he has thought about it, he would greatly prefer the coach's granddaughter to give him his shot rather than some lazy nurse who never seems to be in the clinic.

He smiled inwardly, remembering how much Sakuno had persuaded him to take these dreaded things. Studying her scrunched up face, an idea suddenly formed into his brain.

He smirked.

The needle was about to make contact with his skin again, before he grabbed her arm and leaned in very close to her.

"I need a distraction though…" His eyes slowly closed, while his head lowered.

With that, he captured her lips with his own, while he gently took her hand, guiding it to his other shoulder.

Sure enough, the pain drowned into the kiss.

He smirked victoriously at how the girl blushed.

"M-mou! Ryoma-kun!" She turned away from him, the blush still present.

Maybe shots weren't so bad after all…
