A familiar chime rang within the walls of Pink Diamond's palace. The pebbles scurried away at the sound, and a feeling a dread seeped into their master. Pink Diamond, one of the members of the Great Diamond Authority, had recently lost her pearl. Or rather, it was taken away from her. One little slip-up was all it took for their games to be over. And now, Pink only had her pebbles to take comfort in.
Immediately, the door opened, and a massive figure stepped through, illuminating the room with all her beauty. White Diamond, the leader of the Great Diamond Authority. Pink Diamond squinted upon seeing the bright light, even if the most she could see at eye level was the diamond's shins. She raised her head, looking up at White as her grey eyes looked down upon her.
"Hello, Starlight," she greeted. "Are you doing fine?" Pink opened her mouth to speak, but was interrupted before she could say anything. "You are? Yes, yes, good. I have a surprise to show you."
A distant look came upon her, and something stepped out from behind her. Or rather, floated. On the tips of her toes was a monochromatic pearl, one with only one eye. Her missing eye was where a large crack spread across that side of her face, as if she was broken so the color would drain out of her. Her expression was absent, despite her wide, cheery smile. However, it was not this chilling appearance that unnerved her.
That pearl was her pearl, the one that she cherished so deeply, and the one she lost weeks ago. Except, she was broken now. No longer was she pink; she was the absence of life and color. Pink Diamond let out a gasp, cupping her hands over her mouth. How dare she tamper with her beloved pearl! Why would they all be so cruel as to take away one of her only friends? Anger and despair stormed through her mind, but she remained in the shocked pose she took initially.
"You might notice my new pearl to be a little familiar." White Diamond's eyes narrowed, and her smile turned into one of malice. "Don't worry, she has undergone some adjustments since you last saw her. She is perfectly in line now, much different than the defected one you had last seen."
A tear fell from Pink's eye. She could just barely breathe out, "H-How could you..."
"Don't worry, we have a replacement for you coming up. She should be ready shortly. And she will be perfect for a diamond like you." White's previous coldness seemed to be gone from her face, but the robotic quality she had still remained. "Goodbye, Pink. The diamond chime will be sounded when your pearl is here." Turning around, the radiant gem walked out of the room, her pearl trailing behind her. The door slammed shut, and Pink Diamond was alone again.
Turning to another wall, a secret room revealed itself, and immediately she bolted in there, running along the winding path until she got to her alter. She punched the wall featuring her doodles of the diamonds, tears still falling from her eyes. Then, she got down on her knees, and cried. A few new pebbles were created along the way, but she cried, and cried, and cried, until she could cry no more.
The diamonds would pay one day for what they had done to her beautiful, pink pearl, she promised.
