Forbidden Forest Rewrite
Rating: T
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Notes: While re-watching The Sorcerer's Stone I rewrote the scene where Harry and Draco go into the Forbidden Forest alone in search of the unicorn and added a hint of slashy goodness. As they are only 11 the slashy hints are small and innocent. Enjoy!
"I'm not scared Potter," Draco huffed as he muddled through the dark forest with only the light of his lantern to guide him. How could Potter even insinuate something so ridiculous? Draco kept his hands steady as he walked, not wanting to give Potter any more ammunition or let on that he really was quite terrified. It was the dark forest after all. Only a moron wouldn't be scared.
Harry, Draco, and Fang turned a corner and Draco went even paler than usual at the sight before his eyes. A hooded figure, possibly human but maybe something else, leaning over a unicorn, drinking it's blood. The whole scene didn't feel real until the figure turned to them. Draco's first reaction was to scream. Who's wouldn't be really? Fang took off running and Draco was about to follow him when he noticed that Potter hadn't moved.
What kind of a moron would just stand there while a terrifying hooded figure descended on him? Clearly Harry Potter wasn't as brilliant as everyone believed. Draco instinctively reached down and grabbed Harry's hand. He wasn't even sure what provoked him to do it but it seemed the only way to get the moron to move.
"Come on!" Draco hissed as he held Harry's hand tighter and made a run for it. Harry ran with Draco and the two boys ran through the dark forest still holding hands. Draco had dropped the lantern somewhere along the way and they were now in total darkness.
Draco ducked behind a tree and pulled Harry with him, using his free hand to put a lip on Harry's finger to keep him quiet. After a few moments of silence Harry whispered, "Why'd you drop the lantern?" Draco turned to look at him in the darkness. His mind was screaming, 'Because we were being chased by god only knows what you bloody idiot!' But he just nodded logically, "Because we needed to lose the light to lose that… whatever it was." It did sound logical and Potter seemed to buy it.
"We've got to get back to Hagrid and the others," Harry whispered.
"Have you got any brilliant ideas how to find them?" Draco questioned.
Harry shook his head and looked down at his own hand still holding Draco's, their fingers laced together. He debated saying something but he knew Draco would let go of his hand and it really was rather comforting.
"What do you suppose that was?" Harry asked, still whispering in case it was out there.
Draco shrugged, "You're the famous Harry Potter, why don't you tell me?"
"Do you think I asked for this?" Harry asked, turning to face Draco.
"Who wouldn't want to be famous? To have everyone know your name and think you're the best thing since Quidditch," Draco turned his face toward Harry, able to see him more now that his eyes had adjusted to the darkness.
"To have everyone know more about you than you know about yourself? To have countless expectations of greatness? Would you really want that?" Harry asked, though knowing Draco it probably wouldn't bother him.
Draco was about to answer when he heard footsteps and held tighter to Harry's hand, expecting the monster to appear out of the darkness.
"Harry?" Ron's voice called out. "What happened?"
Draco instantly let go of Harry's hand. He'd never hear the end of that if anyone else saw them. Harry ran to his friends and told their tale as Draco stood back wondering why his hand still felt warm as though Harry's hand were still in it.
