Campus
"I see you you're walking 'cross the campus,
Cruel professor, studying romances
How am I supposed to pretend, I never want to see you again?"
Nikola Tesla did not appreciate being bullied. Especially not by those stuck up English types. They believed themselves to be better than him, simply because he was Serb. Hah! Soon they'll see, Nikola and the other members of the Five were certainly getting closer. And even if those snobs couldn't know the true magnificence of what they were about to accomplish, he would be content to gloat silently.
"Isn't that right..." Nikola softly spoke to his friend, the local pigeon that was always at this particular balcony. And since Tesla himself often was at this particular balcony, the two had made a fast friendship. Nikola would often bring a small amount of seed and grain for the pigeon, and the pigeon would stop and stay a while and let Tesla study it some. Reaching out to touch his friend, he wasn't surprised when it flew away, out over the lush campus bellow that teemed with students.
Taking a deep breath, Tesla looked out over the extensive grounds. Picking through the crowds, he recognized no one, until he found her. She really was a sight to see; proud, elegant, beautiful. It wasn't hard to pick her out of a crowd. Grasping at the worn, stone railing in front of him, Tesla allowed his body to stretch and relax, content to watch as Helen Magnus held a quick pace, nose stuck in a text-book, and yet managed not to run into anyone of anything. So at ease was Tesla that he failed to hear the movement behind him until it was too late.
"Beautiful, isn't she..."John Druitt's deep voice was so unexpected that it startled Nikola into whirling about-face rapidly, and he was hard-pressed not to look like the proverbial cat that had just eaten the proverbial canary, or in this case, watched the canary with a predator's eye.
"Of course she is. You've done well Johnny-boy." Nikola tried to keep the bitterness out of his voice, but John knew well enough Telsa's feelings.
"Yes, well. Try to remember that next time you go weak in the knees." Druitt practically smirked as he left, knowing he had gained the upper-hand.
As soon as he had rounded the corner Tesla let out an exasperated sigh, turning back to the courtyard. Scanning the courtyard he noticed, with regret that she was gone. Druitt had made his point crystal-clear. Magnus was his, and he would punish those who attempted to change that. Well, he would show him. One day.
