I don't own Naruto you cant sue.
Skylar warily trudged up the stairs of her apartment grumbling. She hated nights like this one, the dark and gloomy weather did nothing to help improve her mood.
Where the hell had she put her keys?
Skylar quickly remembered she was already holding her keys when one of them stabbed her in the eye. Cursing vehemently, she fumbled her house key into the lock. Gods, what was wrong with her lately?
Aside from the fact, her sister had died in her arms that morning.
Absolutely fucking nothing.
She sighed and walked over to her couch and collapsed into it with a pained groan. She closed her eyes and let her head slump back. For a few moments, there was silence.
Until she spoke to the occupant that had followed her
"You know, I really should be angry at you, you bastard."
The cushions shifted slightly as Orochimaru sat down next to her. His response was quiet, in a tone she seldom heard out of her habitually sarcastic friend.
"For what it's worth, I am not happy your sister died, Skylar, considering we're in the middle of a war, if I gave people time to grieve, that's all we would be doing."
"Oh, good. For a second there I thought you actually cared when people died, like us normal people."
Orochimaru raised an eyebrow. "Who is us?"
"The People of Konoha…" she trailed off looking out the window.
"No offense Sky, but you are hardly the definition of normal, and neither am I. . ." His tone shifted, became slightly caustic.
"You shouldn't fall in love with me."
Skylar rolled her eyes at the comment. "Kind of fixated on that, aren't you?"
He sighed ever so slightly and turned his back
"Orochimaru. I." she began
"Naivety and optimism are barely excusable in a twelve year old child, Skylar. They combined with overconfidence got your sister killed in a battle she should have avoided."
"Will you just-"
He silenced her by putting a finger over her lips and gently spoke.
"I only say this because I care for you…"
"I don't want you killed trying to help me. Death means nothing to me Skylar, but some people do matter. I wish you would get my sense and stop caring about people you don't have the ability to protect."
Tears gathered in the corners of Skylar's eyes, for god's sake. Her sister had died barley twenty four hours ago, and all he could do was tell her not to care about him.
'You… can't possibly mean that…" she murmured her voice filled with hurt as she looked at his back.
He stayed silent and sighed slightly.
"Damn it…" she murmured looking down.
His hand was suddenly cupping her chin and he shook his head.
"I do… But I don't mean it completely… You still have so much ahead of you sky… and if you stick around me… that will change." he spoke smoothly and gently wiped away her tears, causing her to smile, weakly.
"You mean the world to me Sky" he admitted blushing " But I cant always be here to protect you."
" But what if I try and love you?" she asked, hesitantly.
He smirked and shook his head at her defiance.
Then you will have to accept the consequences of your decision." He stood up.
And Skylar watched him go, not having it in her heart to stop him.
Because when you love some one as much as she did him.
No matter how much it hurt.
You always did what they wanted you to.
And she knew in her heart.
As she watched him walking out her door.
One day
They would be together again.
And she would wait.
For him.
Even if it took.
An eternity.
