"He's just a brother"

"A big brother? Little brother?"

"Big brother. Well, he's smaller than me which pees him off, but he's still the big one."

"And who decided on this road trip?"

"He did. I agreed eventually – when things stopped going to plan"

"And why is that?"

"Can we talk about the asylum now?"

"We had an agreement Sam, a deal if you like"

"Fine, there were just the three of us growing up: my Dad and Dean and me. It was like a chain of command – Dad took care of Dean and Dean took care of me"

"And you resent him for this?"

"Dean has been following Dad's orders blindly all his life. Anything he asks, Dean does without question. And although I can challenge Dad, I can't with Dean – it's like when he tells me to do something I just can't help myself"

"You're dependent on him?"

"Me? No. But Dean is; co-dependent. On both me and Dad. And when Dad's not around – just like when we were kids – Dean leeches himself to me, like he needs me or something. Needs something to bark orders to"

"Sounds to me like he cares about you"

"What he cares about is being Dad's good little soldier"

"But where is Dad? He's obviously not tripping with you"

"He's around. Somewhere."

"So Dean chose you"

"Dean is looking for Dad"

"And he asked you to come with him"

"Yeah, but not out of loyalty to me"

"You think your Dad ordered him to include you?"

No, I just, I just think he was lonely"

"And so he chose you. He is looking for the most important person in his life – by your account – and he wants to do it with you. What does that tell you about how he feels about you?"

"I,I..."

"I think you already know"

"Dad's been gone for months and Dean still looks out for me. Still saves my ass one more time"

"Is this why you haven't walked away? You're obviously an intelligent guy – surely you don't need him. And he's had years of experience being responsible; bringing you up. What use can you possibly be?"

"But he loves me"

"And I love him. I mean he's a jerk. And bossy. But he's kinda my hero"

"And how does that make you feel?"

"Oddly enlightened. A little light headed. Mostly overwhelmed"
