Matterings

Everything in his world finally made sense. He was powerful and part of an important, powerful family. Everyone who was anyone knew his name. It was all he had ever wanted. Needed. And yet he was more confused – uncertain – than ever before.

He suspected it was all because of his precious cheerleader. Claire had been his obsession for such a long while. Claire – his niece. If he had just left her alone, where would he be now? Mute point, though. He could never have left her alone.

He wondered if something had started to heal in his mind the moment he took her wonderful power. Had the chemicals in his brain balanced? Healed? Is that why he suddenly wanted to change his ways?

Could his Claire not only heal his body, but also his conscious?

Noah had called him a sociopath. Claire had called him a monster. Even though he had made excuses for his behavior, he knew in his newly discovered soul they had been right.

But were they right still?

He didn't know. He hated not knowing. He would just have to keep searching, keep doing what he could to find the answers – no matter what.

Sylar winced as he heard his niece's phantom voice gently whispering in his ear, "No – not no matter what, uncle Gabriel. Not anymore."
