Quidditch Teams

Pansy was shifting nervously in her seat. Draco was supposed to have been here fifteen minutes ago and she was starting to wonder if he was even going to show up at all.

She smoothed her hair down for the fifth time and stared blankly down at the menu, trying to slow her breathing. She counted the minutes as they ticked by, and was gathering her purse to leave when Draco finally appeared at her side. He rolled his eyes at her and sat in the chair opposite of the one she was vacating. She huffed and slammed her purse on the table.

"Draco, when someone makes plans with you it is appropriate to show up on time. I thought your mother taught you better manners than this."

She sat back down in a sulk.

He raised an eyebrow at her and smirked.

"I'm so sorry, Pansy," he drawled. "Something came to my attention that I couldn't ignore."

He reached into his inner coat pocket and withdrew a folded piece of paper that he set on the table and leisurely slid toward her.

He smirked at her and nodded as she reached for the paper and began to unfold it. It looked like an article from The Daily Prophet. Her heart began to beat harder with each fold she undid. She began to see her name leap from the page and she quickly undid the remaining folds and smoothed the paper on the table.

The first thing she saw was her own dark eyes closing and a pale hand lacing its way through her short, black hair and pulling her closer towards rosy, puckered lips. Her eyes widened and she quickly flipped the paper over and slammed it on the table.

She quickly glanced at Draco but his face was emotionless. Her mind was racing and she started babbling incoherently.

"Slithering Salazar! I wanted to tell you. It wasn't. I didn't. I thought... "

Draco held up his hand to quiet her.

Pansy took a deep breath and quickly launched into an apology. "I'm sorry, Draco. I didn't mean to date your ex. It just happened." Her cheeks heated and she avoided his gaze.

He was silent for a few minutes, just staring at her before he burst out laughing.

"So, Astoria is playing for the other Quidditch team now, eh? I never would have guessed it."

She glared at him. "Well, she obviously didn't like what your team had to offer her."

"Hey, now," Draco countered, "I have been told I am very good at playing Quidditch; you have to be skilled to win the game."

He winked at her, and she smiled at him and rolled her eyes in response. She finally felt like she could breathe again. Draco, her best friend, was okay with her dating his ex. A weight had been lifted off her shoulders and they quickly fell into their usual banter, with no more secrets between them.
