Summary: It's a big day for the ax-wielding warrior and although she didn't want to admit it, Astrid Hofferson was nervous. Good thing a certain Haddock was there for some encouragement.
She held out her hands in front of her and continue to watch as they began to shake just ever so slightly. Honestly, she had no idea if she actually was shaking or if it was all in her head, yet she continued to focus on her hands trying to calm herself down. She took deep breaths and closed her eyes, but no matter what she did Astrid was a complete and nervous wreck on the inside. It was only one of the biggest day for her.
No one said a word to her as she stood inside her hut. But then again no one had any doubt in her. So why did she all of the sudden feel like she was a failure? She never was. Not a single moment in her life has that word ever cross her mind or even describe her. Yet, here she was becoming a nervous mouse. She took another deep breath and sighed.
"You okay?"
She jumped and turned around to see her boyfriend standing there with a concern look upon his face. When she calmed down she answered him, "Yeah, I mean as okay as I can be I guess."
He didn't buy it as he walked up to her, "Are you sure?" He grabbed her hands rubbing the pads of his thumbs on top of them.
Another sigh was let out and she shrugged. "I don't know, you know?"
He nodded.
That right there set off her panic button as she began to ramble on all about her worries about today. "I mean the only person who has even come to visit me so far is you. Why haven't my other family members? My mother? My dad? Do they know something that I don't? What if they-"
"Hey now," he cut her off. "Don't think like that. Not once in our lives have I ever seen you doubt yourself. So why is today any different?"
"Because today is not like any other day," she reminded him.
Hiccup smiled and tilted her head up to look at him. When she was, he leaned down to kiss her. It was a small kiss, not lasting longer than a few seconds, but it was one that she needed. As they pulled away from one another her smile was copying his. "There no more worrying."
"Okay."
"I have faith in you, Astrid, just like your family. Because there's no doubt in our mind you're going to be great at these trials."
She sighed again, "I hope you're right."
He smirked and handed her ax to her. "Well, if you want some encouragement just think of the brighter side."
"And what bright side would that be?" She teased.
"If you're not welcome into House Hofferson, you can always join House Haddock."
She punched his arm lightly at the joke, but it was clear that there was a small blush staining her cheeks. All kidding aside both teens didn't mind the sound of that happening either.
