Just Red and Blue
It was only ever Red and Blue. Green didn't come until later, and she wasn't much of a trainer anyway, though she had Professor Oak's Bulbasaur. Sometimes, Blue thought she'd rather hang out with Daisy and become a Coordinator.
Red and Blue were the trainers; the Champions. It was Red now. Blue had the title, for a bit. He lost it to Red. He'd almost won it back, but Red had held on. So Red was the undisputed Champion, at least until Blue managed to beat him again.
No-one else got close to the two of them. No-one had won Blue's badge, let alone the right to a title match. And Blue was proud of that; he was the one who would challenge Red again, for his title. Everybody else were light years behind.
It was only ever Red and Blue. Even if there were other kids from Pallet Town too. Kids like Green who chose different paths. Or kids who just couldn't keep up. Because there was no-one else up there, at the top. They'd beaten everyone else.
And it would stay like that until someone came along to defeat Blue. Till then, it was just Red and Blue.
