The Secret of the Chamber of Secrets

Salazar pulled Rowena closer and kissed her neck. She let out a breathy moan but pulled back from him.

"We can't keep doing this, Salazar. Sneaking around like this." She walked to the window to escape his embrace and stared at the grounds below.

The noises of construction filled her ears. She was easily able to pinpoint Godric Gryffindor in the crowd below; his dark signature crimson robes stood out amongst the dreary colors of the other wizards. She watched as he brandished his wand in the air with flourish. She couldn't see it from where she was, but she could picture the proud smirk on his face. She sighed heavily and turned back from the window to face Salazar again.

"We both have to think about Godric. We are engaged to be married and you are his best friend. We can't keep doing this."

"Then leave him," Salazar pleaded.

"I can't." Rowena slumped against the wall. "I wish we had never started this school; things wouldn't have gotten so muddled."

"He would understand," Salazar reasoned.

Rowena scoffed at the comment. "You think he would understand? He would sooner kill you then let me go. No, I am a prize to him." She shook her head.

"I don't believe that; you are so much more than your beauty. Your smarts, creativity, and wit..."

Rowena gave a sad laugh. "That may be what you see in me, Salazar, but not many others care two hoots for my brains, Godric included."

"He would understand about love." Salazar crossed the room to her. "Because I love you."

She sucked in a breath and slammed her lips against his.

They were so lost in each other's embrace that they hadn't even heard the door being kicked open.

"What is this!" Godric screamed.

He threw Salazar off Rowena and stood in between them.

"What is the meaning of this?" He asked.

"I love him!" Rowena cried in return, her body racking with sobs.

"You are mine!" Godric said.

"I am so sorry. I never meant for you to find out this way but please, Godric, for our friendship, release me from our betrothal, so I can be with Salazar. I love him."

"If you are not with me, you are not with anyone."

He stormed out of the room, leaving Salazar and Rowena alone. Salazar rushed to her side and embraced her as she let the sobs tumble from her lips.

"I will get him to change his mind."

Salazar tried every day to convince Godric to release Rowena from their marriage contract, but he refused. Each attempt and denial only deepened the rift between them until they were no longer friends and turned, instead, to enemies.

Salazar, in all his cunning glory, still found a way for them to be together. He created a hidden place where he and Rowena could meet in private, a chamber of secrets, that was just for them.
