Lucius loves the wrong Black sister first.
She isn't beautiful, at least in the striking, perfect way that Narcissa is, but there is something about the graceful way that she moves and speaks that makes his nerve endings tingle and his heart race. In her forgiving nature and gentle laughter he sees something he has never seen before and like every other thing he cannot have, it is something he wants so much it actually hurts.
Andromeda knows from the way he watches her that he wants her. It is obvious in the way that his eyes linger on her own even when he is supposed to looking at Narcissa; in the way that his hand will brush hers when it should be holding Narcissa's. And yet, she allows him to. Because unlike Bellatrix, who rebels against their parent's commands on a daily basis, Andromeda never does anything shocking. She wants to rebel, if only secretly, just this once, before being married off to someone exactly like Lucius, probably, someone exactly like the person who at the moment she wants with all her existence because he belongs wholly to her sister.
Neither of them mean to fall in love. That does not stop it happening, and this does not ease the pain when Lucius takes Narcissa's sweet little hand and in front of them all, kneels in front of her. Love for Andromeda does not stop the torment Lucius feels as he slips the ring onto the wrong finger, and love for Lucius does not stop Andromeda's nails biting into the back of one hand and drawing blood as Narcissa screams yes.
In this case, love saves no one.
