Okay. Hi. I haven't written anything that isn't a paper in so long, so the quality of this will be… well… we'll see, won't we. This is my attempt at getting better at fluffy stuff.

Ruby and Sapphire. Sapphire and Ruby. A team unlike any other. Even before Rose had approached Garnet to join her fight, they left no asses unkicked, no names untaken. Oddly enough, though, they had never been able to fuse.

Not for lack of trying of course- they danced and danced, never able to get it quite right. Eventually, they'd given up, as they never would be able to get in right during any sort of battle.

Those who knew them- Pearl being the only one with whom they remained friends for more than a century or so- so loved their banter, their friendship, their closeness.

And perhaps it was their friendship that inhibited their fusion. This, in retrospect, seemed to be the most likely option, seeing as after their friendship-or rather, their friendship being the sole aspect of their relationship- "ended," they were (finally) able to fuse.

Once they had let down the walls that divided them, their fear of being found out by each other and the potential loss of their well-oiled machine being the wall, they had no impediments in their hearts for fusion.

It happened on a warm day in the Homeworld, with Ruby musing that Sapphire sounded as lovely as ever while she fought a dummy, and Sapphire wondering when the next baddie would screw up and the duo would get to go out, shoulder to shoulder, kicking the ass of the aforementioned baddie. She wouldn't call herself a romantic, that was much too sappy for her taste, but thinking about her next mission withy Ruby always made her grin.

Ruby, also not a romantic, but definitely a sap, grinned as she played lazily with a stick in the ground and thought about Sapphire's soft hair and her cute laugh and her…

No, Ruby wasn't a romantic.

It was silly, really, both gems having a crush on the other, but neither ever telling. Not telling each other, anyway. Of course, Pearl, the busybody (lovingly!), knew. But both had given her strict orders not to tell or hint or give even the slightest indication to the other. Pearl found this to be ridiculous, but she was loyal almost to a fault.

But then again…

One day, she was musing, Is it not loyalty to my friends to give them both what they want? Is it not loyalty to help them recognize each others' affections?

Which was the exact moment that busybody Pearl took over.

First, naturally, she made sure that both gems were in fact interested in relationships and interested in each other still. She was nothing if not thorough. Secondly, she started making files. Files about their favorite activities, moments that they had shared, conversation starters, and tons of other relevant information.

She was momentously excited, and after all, it was no breach of confidence if she simply set them up on a date.

So, yeah. It's gonna be a two-shot probably, considering that its nearly 1 am where I live and I have a test tomorrow. And Wednesday. And a paper due Friday. But, Friday's the last day of school, so that's excellent.

Anyway, this is not necessarily high quality, but everyone has to start somewhere, right? So, I hope you enjoyed my building block, my step into the great adventure that fanfiction has to offer. I'll see you, probably, next Monday-ish or so.

Peace!

I was going to put a profound, beautiful quote here, but as I flipped through my goodreads quotes, I realized that I made it when I was thirteen. So here's a quote from the random page I flipped to in the closest book to my location:
