AN: Written for the Great Maze challenge on the Harry Potter Fanfiction Challenges Forum. My prompt was "There's a bright light, so you shield your eyes. Someone comes up to you with a wand. Is he/she good or evil?"

Tonks planned to go down fighting.

She was surrounded on all sides by Death Eaters, but that didn't matter. Nymphadora Tonks was known for her stubbornness, her refusal to give up or back down. There was no way a few stupid Death Eaters were going to going to destroy her legacy of being annoyingly persistent.

With a loud yell, she spun around in a circle, firing off curse after curse, ducking to avoid an Avada Kedavra and jumping to her feet to avoid a Stunning Spell. She laughed out loud at the stunned expressions of the falling Death Eaters. Somewhere, to her right, Bill Weasley and her husband were also battling.

"Keep it up, Tonks!" shouted Bill. She was about to shout back, but suddenly, a brilliant light shone at her. With a yelp, she threw her hand over her eyes, parting her fingers ever so slightly in an attempt to make out who was coming towards her: a woman, she thought, wand held aloft. But were they going to help her or harm her?

"Who's there?" she shouted.

The sound of soft laughter drifted into her ears, chilling her to the bone.

"Stupefy!" she said, shooting the spell towards the source of the light.

"Missed me!" said the voice, in a sing-song way.

"Stop playing games and show yourself!" said Tonks.

"Hmm… maybe I will."

The light vanished. Tonks blinked rapidly, trying to regain her vision. A moment later, the picture came into focus.

Just as she had suspected, Bellatrix was standing in front of her, her wand inches from Tonks' throat.

"Any last words?" said Bellatrix, smirking. "Want me to pass a message on to your little werewolf cub? Or your husband? He's going to die next, you know."

Behind her, the Death Eaters moved closer, ruining any chance of an escape.

Tonks took a deep, shuddering breath.

So this is it.

"Last words?" she said, smiling. "Someone's going to kill you, Bella. And I hope it hurts."

Somewhere to her right, Remus screamed her name.

Bellatrix's lips moved.

There was a flash of green light.

Then nothing.
