This is just a small ficlet of obvious characterisations of Kubota and Tokito.
I generally don't write fanfiction. I apologise about the unoriginality of this piece.

When you see them together for the first time it's hard to tell which of the two needs the other more, but the more you watch them, find out their nuances, and really get to know them you come to realise that despite how it looks at face value they both need each other in the same way, even though one seems coolly detached and aloof, and the other a volatile rollercoaster of energy, and emotion.

You'd be forgiven for thinking the louder of the pair is selfish, or even oafish in the way he demands things of his taller, quieter counterpart, but when you finally notice the way the taller one smiles at these requests, the way he fulfils them with seeming pleasure instead of annoyance you start to wonder what you missed.

The smaller one isn't shy in vocalising his displeasure at others thinking they can come between the two. Whether it's with blinding confidence, or absolute naivety he states the other will never leave him, even in weak moments when he asks the other to stay, he knows he doesn't really need to ask for the other's company. The tall boy would follow him into oblivion if it meant staying by the small boy's side.

The tall one always seems bemused at the smaller's continual presence. It's always a surprise to him when the small boy comes back when he leaves by himself, almost as if he expected the boy to tire of him and leave. He isn't sure how much others can tell about the way he feels about his stray friend, but silently he admits to himself that as long as he has the small boy in his life he is sure of his existence. He knows he will do anything to keep him, unlike so many stray animals he had befriended before.
