Disclaimer: Power Rangers does not belong to me.
A/N: I wrote this fic late at night after a guy I'd been into for a long while suddenly blew me off. It happens, and I'll get over it. I was just really a little heartbroken at the time, so I decided to try something new and write it all down in an attempt to get out everything I was feeling. Surprisingly, I found when I honestly let it out, I really did feel better. :-)
Guys may come and go, but writing (and Power Rangers) is something hopefully we'll all have for a long time to come.
When You Wanted Me
Kat watched as Tommy and Kim cuddled in the corner, feeling weird inside as she watched him stroke her hair and wrap his arms around her waist. Kat was obviously jealous of all the attention Tommy was giving Kim. After all, Tommy was now looking at Kim like she was the most attractive woman in the world and that he would do anything to be with her. The same way he'd once looked at Kat.
It broke Kat's heart to realize in the end she'd just been Tommy's rebound girl, keeping his arms full and his bed warm until the one he really wanted had come home. It seemed so surreal to Kat that when once she'd been Tommy's new girlfriend and Kim was the dreaded ex. Now, Kat was the former lover and "ex-girlfriend" was longer a term anyone associated with Kim.
Kat hated it. Not Kim, but just the feeling that she'd liked Tommy for so long while he never really felt that much for her to begin with. Kat found herself somewhat despising Tommy while all the while wishing he would come back to her. It was a contradiction, but Kat knew the power of the heart were even more complex than that of being a power ranger.
Sighing, Kat looked around the room and tried to feel better. She knew she had so much to be thankful for: being the Pink Power Ranger, getting a chance to help defend Earth, dancing ballet, and above all, her wonderful friends. Scanning the room, Kat smiled as she watched Rocky stick pretzels up his nose in his usual goofy manner, Aisha swinging her braided hair giddly from side to side with Tanya imitating her cousin, Billy desperately trying to make some scientific reasoning out of the scene while Adam smiled shyly as he looked on at everyone and Jason just laughing.
Even the presence of Tommy and Kim still made Kat happy in a way. Despite that Tommy had broken her heart and Kim had spoiled her new romance, Kat knew they were still her friends on some level and that they definitely still cared about her. As much as she wanted to dislike them, Kat couldn't find it in her to despise two people who in the past had really been there for her in the past and that she knew in the future she would eventually once again be best friends with.
The future. Kat found herself genuinely cheered up at the thought. It really was the only thing she could hold onto for the promise that one day she really would know what mutual, true love felt like. As she watched Tommy cup Kim's check as he leaned in for a sensuous kiss, Kat found herself strangely feeling hopefully. So Tommy wanted to kiss Kim and not her. It had turned out Tommy wasn't the guy for her. So what?
Kat knew that even though she was feeling down right now, someday and somewhere, the guy of her dreams would be kissing her that exact same way with some much love in his heart. Love in his heart… for her.
Please review everyone if you have the time! I really could use something cheery right now.
