Sparkle in the Night

Lenalee stood in her room in a dark blue lace-trimmed slip. It was nighttime and she brushed her long hair, deep in thought. After a hundred strokes, she swept her hair back and let it fall freely. She set the brush down and was just about to go to bed before a knock sounded.
She had just finished saying "Come in" when Kanda let himself into her room. Hands on her hips, she teased, "What is it with you and bursting into other people's rooms?"
"It's not other people. It's you," he corrected mildly.
That stopped her in her tracks. Every time Kanda showed affection, however sbutle, she was pleasantly surprised. While she was preoccupied, he slipped something shiny and laced with ribbons out of his pocket.
Lenalee giggled a little and walked forward. Her soft lips met his for a moment. It ended all too quickly.
She eyed the fancy looking box suspiciously. "What is that?" She asked.
Kanda only smirked. "I guess you'll never know if you keep asking so many questions."
Huffing indignantly, she hovered by his arm, one hand on his shoulder, trying to peer inside the box as he opened it slowly.
When the ribbon and wrappings came apart slowly, like a blossoming flower, a glint of silver caught her eye.
At last it was all revealed to her. A sliver locket with beautiful carvings on a short delicate chain. Her lips curled into a delighted smile.
Then something else glistened in her peripheral vision—it was a pair of silver heart earrings with the letters L & K carved in each one.
Her heart in her throat, she gently picked up the earrings and looked up at Kanda.
"They're beautiful," she whispered.
Like two halves of a whole, he moved to lift her hair as she fastened the earrings, watching in dazed awe as he worked the clasp of the necklace.
Together, they stood in front of the mirror, a perfect mold for each other.
Kanda slowly moved her hair back and whispered slowly and teasingly in her ear, "Happy Valentine's Day."
Lenalee blushed and turned her face to meet his. This kiss was by far longer and sweeter.
They separated only when lack of air forced them to. Smiling, she nodded towards her room, a silent invitation for him to stay the night. She knew he would not refuse.
He followed as she crawled into bed, her silky nightdress emphasizing her tantalizing curves.
Like so many times before, he smoothed the hair away from her face and held her close, watching as her eyes drifted shut. Her face is happy and at peace, an expression he wished she would never lose.
Kanda lay next to her with a similar expression, an arm wrapped securely around her waist.
In the comfort of the dark, he smiled as he saw the glint of silver twinkling softly in the night.
