January 31st 1978. It was the day after Lily Evans' 18th birthday. It had been perfect for her, the whole day with her boyfriend, James Potter, and friends, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew and Alice Prewett. Plus, she had had her favourite lessons with her favourite Professors, double potions with Professor Slughorn and double Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall. And after that, James had taken her on a perfect date!

(THE DAY BEFORE)
"Happy birthday Lils!" Lily looked for the time. 6:03. "Lily, Happy Birthday!" the voice repeated. It belonged to Alice Prewett, Lily's best friend.

"Alice, it's 6 o'clock." Lily groaned.

"And your 18th birthday!" She said, perkily, considering the time. Lily groaned again. "COME ON LAZY!" She dragged Lily out of bed, then down to the Gryffindor common room, where James, Sirius, Remus and Peter sat. Sirius, Remus and Peter looked tired whereas James stood up and ran to his girlfriend and kissed her.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY LILY FLOWER!" He shouted.

"Yeah, happy birthday." The other three marauders said with no enthusiasm whatsoever.

"Thanks, guys" Lily blushed.

"You have presents!" James exclaimed, rushing over to a pile of neatly wrapped gifts.

Alice dragged Lily to them, and then turned to look at the Marauders and spoke sternly; "Get here now. This is your friend, and other friends girlfriends 18th birthday." The three half-asleep young men trudged to the other three. James passed the first present to Lily. It was neatly wrapped in wrapping paper that said 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' in various different colours. She looked at the tag that read; 'To our precious Lily
Happy Birthday and see you soon!
Love from Mum and Dad xxx'
She carefully unwrapped it and inside was a gorgeous pair of emerald earrings, a beautiful gleaming green dress and matching with matching ballet pumps. There was a little note laying on it that read; 'Wear them around James, he'll love it. They match your eyes. Love you, mum xx'

"Wow!" Alice and James breathed. Sirius, Remus and Peter had definitely woken up a bit more at this.

"It matches your eyes perfectly Lily flower!" James gasped. Lily grinned. She placed it by the side of her on the armchair and reached down for another present. She got some Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans from Peter, 'History of Magic' from Remus and chattering teeth from Zonkos from Sirius. She received no gift from her older sister Petunia. One small box shaped item wrapped in simple green wrapping paper remained. She reached out to grab it. She pulled at the spell tape until she could see a dark blue box. She opened that and a silver necklace met her eyes. It had a heart charm on it. When she looked closer she saw engraved in it 'James and Lily'

"James…I love it!" She said, with tears of joy in her eyes.

"I have one more surprise…" He replied, before getting onto one knee and pulling a black box (similar to the one with the necklace in) out of his robe pocket. He opened it. Lily saw inside was a beautiful gold ring with an emerald on it. "Lily Evans. I love you, so much! I know we haven't been together long, and I know we're still at Hogwarts, but would you do me the greatest honour and be my gorgeous wife?" He spoke, with a sign of anxiety in his voice.

"James," Lily began. "Of course I will!"

"Awww!" Alice, Sirius, Remus and Peter exclaimed.
