Prologue
"My one and only regret before leaving this world is that my beautiful baby girl will never hear from me, her heritage and what's in store for her." She said turning to Collin. "Once more I ask you, why should I allow you to bound and mate with my daughter when she comes of age?"
Collin took a long and unnecessary breathe before answering. "As much as you may hate my kind, you know very well that if you do not declare that your daughter Serena is promised to someone. She will not have a chance for freedom, normality, and happiness. At least with me declared as that someone, Serena will." He gave a smile that showed his gleaming fangs.
"I will keep my distance from your daughter until she comes of age and into her powers. I will watch and protect her from afar until then. Serena will have a normal as possible childhood. You have my word Selene." She stared at the vampire for a long time. Many thoughts were going through her mind. One of them being how she wished she sent Serena away and lied stating the child she gave birth to was still born.
However things being as they were, Collin was right. This three thousand year old vampire could protect and care for Serena. Giving all the things she desperately wished for her daughter to have in her life. There was one thing though Selene was not sure Collin could give , well emotion actually, she wanted for her daughter to be loved.
Both she and Collin are two separate yet old and powerful species where love was not something if anything to do with bounding and mating in their cultures. It was a matter of convince or a need or want that the other or both had. Selene had fallen in love with her mate and him with her. A very rare thing, even for heavenly celestial beings.
"Serena has been marked by the moon goddess." Selene looked at Collin to gauge his reaction. "Yes, I saw the crescent moon birthmark on her shoulder. As such she will have a great deal more coming her way." "Not just that Collin, Serena will need love. Are you capable of giving it to her?"
Seeming to have been taken back by that question, he stared down at the cradle and the sleeping babe inside. When Collin looked back at Selene he seemed to have decided something, an answer to her question perhaps. Slowly Collin smiled.
(Sneak peek at chapter one)
'A being appeared out of the fog. Tall and with a body as big as a door frame. Unbelievably pale with a thin upper lip and a full lower one. High cheek bones that seem to set off his intensely dark brown eyes. Hair black has night. He wore a gray t-shirt and blue jeans. Just stood there staring as if he were waiting for something.'
Beep, Beep, Beep!
Serena jerked up right turned to her left and fell face first off her bed. "Well that's not a good way to start out your birthday." Her mother walked towards her and helped Serena to her feet. Shutting off the alarm Tara looked at her teenage daughter with a smile.
