A/N: This is my first drabble for The Ultimate Pairing Drabble Competition. My prompt was doors, and I chose the pairing Scorpius/Rose. Enjoy!

Words: 223

Scorpius Malfoy viewed his life as a series of doors. Each one led somewhere new. His first words. His first tottering steps. Learning to read. His accidental magic. Getting his Hogwarts letter. Being sorted into Slytherin. All of these were doors, and all of them had shaped him into the man he was today.

You see, the thing about these doors was that once you crossed through them, you could never go back. They would close behind you, never to be opened again. Scorpius had accepted the fact. There was nothing to be gained by focusing on where you had been or where you could have been if you had taken a different door. He was a Slytherin, after all; his thoughts were focused on the scenes and situations he found himself in at the moment as well as his schemes for the future. These were things he could influence.

However, there was one door that Scorpius could not and would not accept was closed. He had made a mistake, and he knew it. He hadn't been able to admit it at the time. He was too much of a Malfoy for that. He knew he had hurt her. That was why he was standing out here, in the rain, beating on Rose Weasley's door; some doors were too precious to let close.
