To this day, the Dragonborn Alora insists that it was through no fault of her own that she was captured by the Imperial Legion in the days leading up to Alduin's Return. However, due to the subsequent deaths of all other witnesses in Alduin's attack on Helgen, her account is the only version available. Thus the following account must be taken with a grain of salt, as there is no way to check for elaboration.
It had taken her weeks of planning and watching border patrols, but Alora had finally slipped over the border into Skyrim. Although, Whiterun was her ultimate destination, Alora had slowed to a gentle stroll through the wilderness. It was sunny and warm, unlike the freezing temperatures and blizzards that she could expect farther North, along the road.
As she travelled farther North, Alora heard sounds of a scuffle. Against her better judgment, she changed her course into the direction of the disturbance. Looking through some bushes, Alora realized the scuffle was a fight between the Imperials and the Stormcloaks.
She really didn't want to become involved in the craziness of the Civil War, and began to slink back toward the road. At that moment someone seized her arms.
"Sir, I caught another!"
What actually happened...
It wasn't that hard to slip over the border into Skyrim. Despite Imperial claims, the border wasn't that well patrolled. For the first few minutes, Alora had ran at an all-out sprint. But, soon she grew tired and decided that since it was nice, she might as well take her time. Whiterun was far away, and from the stories the road got very cold. Alora decided that she wasn't going to walk the entire way, and so she began watching for a hold. Holds had stables, and stables had horses. After dark, it wouldn't be very hard to steal er temporarily borrow one. Alora had horse jacked her way across High Rock, and stealing horses wasn't that new to her.
Several hours before dark however, she heard the sounds of a scuffle, off in the distance, dropping into a crouch she slunk towards the sounds. A band of Imperial soldiers, and a group of Stormcloaks were fighting in a small clearing in the woods. Nearby, several horses were hidden in the trees, unattended while their owners were busy fighting.
Alora ran over and unnoticed grabbed one of the horse's harness. Unfortunately another thief had had the same idea as her.
"Hands off!" he hissed struggling to pull the reins out of her hands, "My horse." Alora pulled back, and glowered
"I saw it first! There are five other horses. Steal one of them."
"No this one is mine."
"Like Oblivion it is. Let Go!"
They still were there, arguing over the horse, when the Imperials returned dragging the captured imperials. Both almost horse thieves looked up, realizing they were surrounded.
"Great." Alora grumbled, then she glared at the other thief "This is your fault."
No Alora, its all your fault. Not that she's going to tell anyone. No, that's her secret - along with what actually happens when she visits Dawnstar or Riften, and what actually happened in Markarth
