A/N: So I'm tentatively dipping into the KakaSaku fandom with this one. I haven't even finished my other story and it's unlikely I can since my old laptop decided to eat the finished product and I don't remember how I ended it before. I apologise to the people who are waiting for me to update that. I'm not sure where I want this to go right now and university life takes a horrible toll on my time to write so I apologise in advance for not updating regularly. But, either way enjoy this and please review.
Prologue
The rain continued to pound relentlessly into the earth, watched by listless green eyes that used to shine with life, dulled with defeat. Staring into space, the memories, the words that were said on that day ringing in her ears.
"You'll be fine on your own, right?" he had said, no remorse, no hesitation.
Spine stiffening immediately at the soft sound of the door opening, her scalp itching at the feel of his gaze as he entered the room. Shutting the door quietly behind him, not looking away from her, Naruto heaved a silent sigh of relief. He had been worried she ran off alone and used her Summon Element until she almost burned out from the inside again. Naruto had immediately went to search for his cousin when his wife, Hinata, came to him, pale eyes alight with panic and worry when she was unable to find Sakura with her Gift of the Seeker.
It was not his intention to house Sakura in his home under constant watch and guard but after the first time she almost killed herself, tapping into her life force to feed the bond between herself and her Summon Element, he had to step in. Sudden rage bubbled up inside him at the thought of her father – no, the man that had made her this way, but immediately banished the thought barely able to stop his Summon from manifesting itself. Walking slowly closer, he stopped at her words.
"If it's going to be that kind of solace then I should be tired of hearing it now," voice soft, subdued. At his silence, she continued this time her tone resigned, posture weary and defeated, "The rain is falling again today and it doesn't seem like it will end."
Swallowing back his panic at the words and the urge to hunt down the bastard that was his uncle, Naruto stepped closer trying to find the right words to console her, to get the Sakura he once knew back from this shell of a woman. Finding none, he put his hand on her shoulder in a gesture of support, the words his mother, a Medium, had left him after her death, words he had been repeating to her time and time again.
"Scars heal within time, at what seems to be an impossible distance but still within reach," his mother had said but Naruto is starting to fear it would not be so for Sakura and that she is already broken beyond what he could do to help repair her.
Closing tired eyes slowly trying to hide the despair taking over her mind and slowly poisoning her thoughts, Sakura replied with a quiet, "If you say so," as a long heavy silence descended over the room only broken by the sound of the rain.
