Wow, I haven't written fanfics in years! Just thought I'd throw up this lil one-shot for you guys. Let's see... *Ahem* I do not own any of the following characters or referenced creatures...
Dib looked into the observation room… where he'd left the alien…
Zim
Well, it had been Zim… Having exhausted his studies of the Irkens in the 15 years he'd spent studying their biology… their society… their culture… Dib became curious of their origins… finding very little on where they came from at all.
It was his understanding that Irkens simply arrived at sentience one day… mysterious for a species that has 'always' had (According to their existing history at least) mechanical parts…
Cyborgs don't just come into existence… what were they beforehand? A mechanical sentience that took over some organism's body? And, if so… what was that organism?
It was thoughts like this that led Dib to conduct his experiment… really, the process was derived from some of Zim's own research into time travel and dimensional holes… he used the rebuilt machine to 'replace' a piece of irken history… a trace of their predecessors…
When he first received the trace saliva… the thick sticky slop… he was excited beyond belief… With a bit more research… he could reverse Zim's DNA… essentially de-evolving him with genetic sampling…
The results were… frightening…
Dib had hoped for something more… well… he wasn't sure… but now he could see where the ruthlessness and conquering domineerance of the Irken empire came from… This thing… it was horrible… and it was Zim….
The creature stared at him…Stared! It had no eyes but dammit it stared! Dib was afraid of the creature…. It… Zim… sniffed the air, somehow seeing him through the glass. His teeth were curled up into a lipless grin… and saliva poured down it's jagged jaw… It had spent the day before… testing its agility against the cage… and now.. it watched its captor.. as if to say… soon I'll be the one catching you… Dib could see it in his gaze…
The creature… the alien suddenly looked down to its sharp claws… and lashed out with its hidden jaw… surprised, Dib watched as its self-afflicted wound oozed the green blood he was accustomed to seeing… except… something was wrong…. It was sizzling… burning….
"It's eating through the floor!" Dib gasped, watching as the alien… Zim… grinned back up at him…. Slashing its wounded claw at the glass…. Splattering the corrosive ooze across the surface…
Dib backed up hesitantly… then stumbled… "No…" he mumbled, crawling backwards… Knowing he couldn't outrun it… him… The alien retreated to the back of its enclosure… before rushing the weakened glass… knocking away a large chunk of it and allowing him access to the startled man… the man who had made him this way.
Another pounce and it was upon him… lips quivering with rage as the saliva cascaded onto Dib's chest.
Out of everything he'd done to Zim… he'd never felt sorry... until now… Zim… Dib gasped, "I'm sorry… I'm so, so sorry…"
The creature's jaws unhinged and its concealed inner jaws gnashed forward.. and Dib Membrane was no more…
